best tuning companies
Right, who are the best tuning companies, ideally south of birmingham.
I have yet to find anywhere i fully trust, i have never taken any of my cars to anywhere that I have been 100% satisfied with. Something that was said the otherday rung very true, "no proper mechanics about anymore, only fitters"
i.e. a place recommened by 2 toyota owners clubs did a large amount of work for me (very cheaply and largely very well), but then made a basic stupid error, i.e. plugged my grainger valve in backwards.....
say i wanted forged pistons, new hybrid turbo, new camshafts and a standalone ecu fitted and fully setup where would I go??
I'd always thought John Noble was well respected, but I've read they've made a pigs ear of setting up someones MOTEC ecu and took the best part of a year to do an engine rebuild..

You have to remember that everyone makes mistakes, unfortunately there will be people who have had bad experiences at any tuner. There are only a few places I'd be happy to trust my car with, yet I have friends who have had problems with even them.
Ultimately it is a case of finding somewhere you are confident will do the best they can, and when problems occur (which they will) they will try to sort them out as quickly as possible. The only alternative is to do all the work yourself, but do you ever make mistakes?

yes, i guess the other way to work it is to move the car round different specialists, but then i think often once you have been to a place a few time they tend to treat you better and are more helpful. The company that did most work on my car I will go back to, I think they are very fast and very cheap, jobs take half the time other places quote for and their labour rate is a very reasonable £30 an hour. I havn't told them they did the grainger valve wrong, because I'd only done 100miles in it when I had a problem and they sent a mechanic out free of charge on a 150mile round trip to correct the problem (a simple missed tightening of a crucial bolt). I then fitted a boost gauge myself, took the car for a spin an realised crazy thing were happening with the boost, had a look over things (thinking split hose) and found the valve the wrong way round. Everyone makes mistakes I guess.
Would be good to find somewhere that is perfect. So far from reading many posts I have gathered :
Owen developments - remapping, custom turbo work
Millway Vechicle Specialists - General maintanence (toyota specialist)
Norris designs - engine work, modification
any other suggestions?

I'm guessing you have a Toyota. If you haven't already, have a word with Adrian at Fensport. He will know who to send you to in your area.
