Looking at buying a newly imported EVO VII - Is a BIMTA Check Necessary?
I'm currently looking to buy an import EVO VII and I've just found a newly imported one for sale (trade). It has not been used in the UK and has just been registered having gone through it's SVA, MOT etc. My question is - do I still need to get a BIMTA certificate to be sure it has not been stolen in Japan or are the standard checks far more stringent on imported cars nowadays to ensure it is legit before/during SVA and registration?
Thanks for any advice.

The BIMTA certificate is of no real worth; itd be better to see the Certificate of De-Registration & translation. All vehicles have to be inspected by the state before they leave Japan. The de-reg wont be available as the cars been registered though; but the auction sheet will confirm the vehicles identity; the choice is yours. The VRO will have checked with 'Interpol' before issuing the regristration number though.
