Thumbs up Need another car £4000 maximum.

Right I need a reasonable car...no high mileage 'mad money pit' performance cars (I've already been there with my Legacy Turbo). Money is a little tight to mention. I need a car that is quick and nippy, not too big, five door ideally and okay with Insurance (I only have 1 year NCB and live in a dodgey area with no garage, drive etc.) Its gonna be for a while (NCB up, house in nicer area...) then I get Evo, Impreza or Audi RS4 (Wife doesn't know of course).

I was thinking of a Ford Focus 2.0L Zetec, Honda Accord 1.8i ors something along those lines.

Any ideas...by the way fast is relative I mean in relation to standard cars not warp speed Imprezas!

Thanks to all

Aaquil.

If you're skint get a diesel. They're generally more reliable too.

i can recommend something along the same lines - a 1997-2000 primera with the SR20DE engine (yes the same basic engine as the Sunny GTI-R) - had a 94 car with this engine before me scoob and it went like stink for a 125bhp engine, with group 9 insurance and would return 35mpg on average. My mate still owns a 1998 2.0 SRI which is just as good - he paid £2.5k for his with 45000 on the clock - most are owned by pensioners (mine was anyway) . hope this helps

I'd get a high mileage VW TDi for that sort of money.

Dare I say it Mondeo ST24. Look quite sporty, practical, good engine so nippy, large choice for buying, get quite a good spec, easy to service/run/maintain, insurance shouldn't be bad. Plus only 4-7 years old.

The 1.8 Zetec is a little sportier than the 2.0l.
The 2.0l is more of a cruiser,

I had the 1.8 zetec with S/S exhaust, lowerd suspension and a K&N. Great fun to drive handles very well and practical too.

I have a 1.6 Focus zetec and it handles brilliantly. The 1.8 has better performance, the 2.0 is a biut thristy. Stay away from the 1.4. Insurance is very low on all models except the st170 and rs

Have a look for a Mondy 2.5 Ghia X, these babies are fully loaded with kit and very reasonable second hand ans superb cruisers and handle well.
