Golf gt tdi bhp differences
im on the look out for a golf GT tdi.
There seem to be several different power levels. Im quite interested in the 130 or 150 bhp models.
Is it just the case that the ecus have been programmed differently, or are the engines themselves different? If its a simple case of just getting the 130 chipped to get the extra power is this a wise course? Ive had a petrol car chipped before and the engine didnt last long, will want reliability and well as increased power.
Any thoughts?

130 and 150 engines are very different. The 150 has a significantly re-inforced bottom end when compared to the 130.
Copied from the original press release:-
For its capacity, the new 1.9-litre TDI PD 150 engine is the most powerful diesel unit available in a passenger car; it also boasts the best maximum thermal efficiency at 43 per cent of any liquid-fuelled production car.
To achieve this output while still meeting Volkswagen’s extremely high durability standards the following modifications have been made compared with the 130 bhp TDI PD:
modified injector nozzles (help achieve a further reduction of 25 per cent in particulate emissions)
modified pistons
thicker connecting rods
lighter, stiffer piston gudgeon pins
larger, more efficient and better positioned intake air intercooler (86 per cent efficient)
larger turbocharger and higher maximum boost pressure (2.1 bar, up from 1.9 bar)
The cylinder head and valve gear did not require modification. What’s more, the unit injector system operates at the same maximum pressure of 2050 bar; it is not modified except for the injector nozzles as mentioned above.

looking to get the 115 bhp 6 speed gt tdi. Seem to be quite a bit cheaper than the 130 and 150s for what *appears* to be the same spec less the obvious bhp/engine differences.
Have heard on the honest john site that the earlier 110s were prone to an ECU fault that costs £650 to repair. Any experiences with modest chipping for more power? Thinking of max 20 bhp for sake of reliability and mpg.

Here's the Scoobynet for Golfs: http://www.uk-mkivs.net
Scoobynutta, Jabba Sport do custom remaps to your specs, with a rolling road test etc for about £350. The preferred ECU tuners for VAG cars are Revo, AMD and Jabba. However, I think / think that AMD and Revo are "one map fits all" whereas Jabba have some flexibility to give the map you want.
