yeah...the above link to the official forum.

There arent that many variations. all you need to know is that the 3 ltr Straight 6 TT is the one to go for. IMHO, 6 sp manual although a few swear by the AUTOs.

AUTOs- whats the fun in AUTOs ?

Don't take any notice of one importer inparticular that says the Supra has a V6 engine, they are talking rubbish.

The non turbo and the twin turbo both have straight 6 engines.

N/A is producing about 220bhp

TT is usually quoted as 280bhp but it really is 326bhp as there was an agreement in Japan that nothing over 280bhp would be produced by any of the sports car manufactures but no one really adhered to this.

TT VVTI is rumoured to produce 340-350bhp.

You'll find the 6 speed manual TT's cost £2k to £3k more than the auto version.

The majority of the Supra's you'll see for sale will be imports as the Supra was only sold in TT guise in the UK from 93-95.

The UK TT's can be recognised very easily because they have a bulge in the bonnet and headlight washer jets located on the bumper.

You will probably find these links useful.

- That is the UK supra figure. JAP SPEC usually push 300-310bhp.

TT VVTI is rumoured to produce 340-350bhp.
- NO. more like 321-326bhp

You'll find the 6 speed manual TT's cost £2k to £3k more than the auto version.
- try more like 4-5K for a mint model and for later ones even 7-8K, COLOUR matters a lot people pay top money for black and gun-metal. White are the cheapest.

The majority of the Supra's you'll see for sale will be imports as the Supra was only sold in TT guise in the UK from 93-95.
- UK 93-95 NOT 95

The UK TT's can be recognised very easily because they have a bulge in the bonnet and headlight washer jets located on the bumper.
- Bulge is a popular Japspec mod but the washer...no...so it is a good giveaway.

Seeing as we're being pedantic; it is 280PS which equates to roughly 276BHP, but what would be the point in pointing out such a small mistake eh?

and just to jump on the pedantic bandwagon:

a) we all know said agreement meant **** all
b) "in japan the gentlemens agreement WAS 280ps" as its now abolished so should not be used in current tense.

Have owned a few over the years - UK Cars only and find them to have much better spec than the Imports with regards to bigger brakes, better build on the inside and all the UK's are fully loaded - Full Leather/Airbags/cruise Control/Climate/Traction Control, Front Active spoiler, Headlight washers/bonnet vent (imports dont have)

It is hard finding many UK Supra's at all nowadays -
People debate manuals Vs Auto's - Have owned both and find the Auto easier to drive (with manual it is easy to selct 5th for 3rd gear and 6th for 4th,
I also found that driving manual around town difficult as you could feel it go into gear and hear it also...

Performance wise not much difference between the 2 0.5 secs is the official difference on 0-60 times....
Imports are more available than UK's but the UK's hold much more value and ae more expensive in comparison - Also i think UK's are a lot more sought after...
A lot smoother than classic scoobs i've had - a real cruising machine - however very deceptive on speed - you can drive round easily doing 50mph but feels like 30mph!!!
Hope that helps...

They are a totally different proposition to the scooby. The Supra is more of a GT car than a track car. The chassis is proven in the JGTC, so not exactly bad handlers, but they will lose out to a Scooby round the hallowed 'twisties'.

Best thing is to go for a spin in one mate and decide for yourself. They don't have that lovely flat four burble, but they do make a great noise when you give it a right foot full and the second turbo spins up

A totally standard JDM Supra TT will hit 60mph in 5.2 and 100 in 12.1, and do the quarter mile in 13.4. However, you try finding a standard one

There's a guy on mkivsupra.net that has run a quarter mile of 11.962 on standard turbo's !

And yes they are a good car. Strong, reliable, easily maintained, reasonably rare, hold fair values and turn heads like you wouldn't believe. Insurance is also fairly reasonable given the performance.

All the best

Matt

UK have most of the gizmos and are heavier.

JDM ones had most of these options bar from the steel turbos, larger injectors and the bonnet buldge as an option...oh and I forgot about the headlight washers Not sure about your comment on the build of the interior....I havent noticed any difference. The JDM turbos spool quicker so the car is very responsive, the UK ones have a bit of a lag...however I am talking about standard cars here...with a bit of tuning this is really not a concern.

Quite a lot of the fun in driving a sports car is working the gearbox, the 6 sp manual is a thrill to drive....yes, the box is noisy and can be knotchy but thats normal for the getrag.

Another difference is the UK's have glass headlights and the Imports Plastic......??
Went to a Supra meet a couple of weeks ago @ Showcase Cinema in Leeds and didnt like the interior at all on the Imports - some had half leather/suede, others had cloth only, no airbags in some others had a steering wheel youd expect on a 1990 MR2 and stuff like that - I feel with a Uk spec you get QUALITY...!! IMO of course

Yes...I have those crappy plastic headlights. in two minds at the moment, either get the UK glass headlights but will opt for the more groovy face-lift headlights cause they look better

I like the recaro seats on the later RZ's, other than that the electric leather ones are fine - this is what I have on my JDM. The normal cloth seats are in a word CRAP and are in desperate need of a retrim - which isnt a major problem.

plus, I got no airbags and have a nice three spoke steering wheel. the four spoke is a bit too bulky for my liking

SUPRAS ROCK.

The 'GZ' model JDM car has full leather, cruise, e\seats, airbags etc. as it's top spec.

I have a GZ Aerotop auto, and I love it. As comfy as anything I've driven plus gets to the wrong side of the national speed limit very quickly.

The Uk vs. JDM spec. arguement rages on, but yes the UK spec is nicer although the difficulty is finding one that hasn't done 80k+.

True - mine has only done 62,000 miles and has a Full Toyota Service history....

Raf.
p.s. may be selling my 19" alloys (9 months old cost £2100) if any1's interested as when i sell it i may put the originals back on and reduce the price... The rears are wider and the spokes are deeper than the front.

stay away from the SZ - its NA and no TT

Its a 3 ltr engine with TWO turbos....youve got plenty of torque to play with.

YES> the UKs are better despite being heavier...

I am just cheesed off becuase I coulndnt find a good UK spec 6-sp manual model.

Another reason why I wanted the UK model is because it is £1K cheaper to insure......yes you heard right

I went from a modified Scooby Type R to a modified Supra TT 6 Speed and am very happy with my choice. They are though as people have previously mentioned totally different animals!!!!!

The Supra is dangerously fast, and when that second turbo comes online all hell breaks loose!!! Brilliant

Saying that though it is Horses for courses!!!
