MG ZS 180
Hi there,
I am interested in buying an MG ZS 180, seems i can pick up one with 20k & an 02 plate for something silly like 6k to 7k
Is there anything i should look out for & bar short of an exhaust & an induction kit is there anything else that can be done to the KV6's ??
Cheers
Stephen

Or try.

If he can stand the harsh ride and dated interior they are actually very good to drive. The KV6 is a good until, but a little thirsty, and sounds very sweet with a nice exhaust.

I've had a ZS180 hatch since October now. I was wanted a Scooby for years and years and years, finally decided that I would only be happy either buying new, or newish from a dealer - and I couldn't afford to do that.... However, I'm really really happy with it. Having been a Rover owner before that I didn't quite know what to expect... but it's a damn good car for the money. I paid £8k for a 52plate with 14k on the clock, which could have been a little ott. Handles well, engine's pretty pokey too. It is rather thursty though, but what do you expect. Watch out for this "plenum" problem, which is supposed to affect the KV6 causing a loss of power (down to around 160bhp apparently). Can't say if mine has it or not since it could well have done b4 I bought it. Will stick it on a rolling road before the warrenty runs out next Dec. and take to the dealer if the plot looks bad.
Bad points - all minor ones... The gear **** can come off in your hands when sticking it in reverse, the side windows do not clear excess water off when wound down, my windscreen ices up on the inside during really cold evenings, and I haven't learnt how to control the engine in wet conditions yet
Plus points, brings a smile to my face every time I drive it

Perhaps cos the rest of the ZS range are purely Rover 45's with a bit of a handling tweak? while this has a completely different engine, but the general thoughts of MG are purely as rebadged Rovers. You're right, the depreciation is terrible... so wait until they've depreciated and then you have a awefully lot of car for the money. It's not gonna depreciate by £500 a month now, and should last a fair bit of time considering it's practically new...
I've had one guy at work who laughed when I said I bought one, let him drive it around. He was pretty suprised at how good he thought it was... at the end, said "still wouldn't buy one though"..
Anyway, I'm happy with it, which is what matters I guess..

madfiddler - don't they sound awesome too?
My brother is a sales manager for an MG Rover dealer, and hence has had a few MG ZS 180s in his time. I've followed it in my Scooby, and it certainly didn't lack pace, or handling. My only criticism of them is that the ride is so harsh! But you're right - they're performance bargains 2nd hand.
Will be interesting to see what the proposed tweeked V6 engined ones will be like, with 200+ bhp...

They sound great at the top of the revs. Apart from that, it sounds like a normal car. I may uprate the exhaust and ind. once the warrenty has run out... but then again, at least where the exhaust is concerned, I like the fact it sounds relatively normal...
Is the ride harsh? compared to what? My previous car was a wallowing lump, and haven't really been in many other performance machines, apart from the Elise and you can't compare the ride in those
Yeah, you'd expect a V6 to be 200+ to start with, wouldn't you?

The ride is harsh compared to my Scooby But then so is the MG ZT 190. I agree with the Elise statement! I've driven an Exige and that made go-karts seem comfortable!
