Default Had the old Spitfire out yesterday

Needed an new MOT and historic vehicle tax.
Drove it back from the MOT station, road a little bit damp and weh hey super sideways action. The 2L straight 6, stage 3 head & triple webber conversion gives bootfulls of hooning fun. had to take it round the block numerous times.
Now all i need is that limited slip diff fitted.....
Any good rolling roads round tonbridge/sevenoaks as i reckon its got to be good for 160 bhp as it is. With a proper tune up....

Ah....nostalgia! Had one of these myself quite a while back (restored it from chassis up). If you have a 2 litre lump and triple webers doesn't it effectively become a GT6 convertible (the car Triumph never built)?? Mine still knocks about locally - mimosa yellow on 'P' plate.

Best local rolling road bet localish will be Sanspeed at Bexley heath - especially with those webbers as they used to specialise in those years ago...

it does but instead of starting with a GT6 and changing the bodyshell, i had a spit with the 1297 lump in it. not the best way to do the conversion but i only bought the car for £75.
Then took it completely to bits and rebuilt it with all the necessary mods and restoration reqd!
seven years and lots of cash!

Also had a GT6 with tripple webbers 3 branch tuned extractor exhaust
2.7 off set line bored early TR6 Lump, rotaflex rear Capri brakes etc etc. Went like stink compared to similar aged cars. Handling was at best interesting, rather tail happy especially in the wet! Cabin used to fry you on a warm day!

Nick - do you do anything with the spitfire rear suspension to "contain" the power ?

Spent many happy days at univeristy blasting round the durham moors in my 73 Midget in company with a mates in his similair aged Mk III Spitfire. Several (!) years later my midget is in the garage requiring a fair bit of welding - his spitfire returned to its rightful owner (his Dad) and has had a full restoration - but hes not allowed to drive it anymore

Particulalry remember followoing the RAC into Hamsterly and Kielder in the snow. We pitched up in Midget & Spit - and marshalls were amazed we ever got again....

Would love to see pics - anything to inpsire me to get into the garage on cold winter evenings and fire up the MIG
