133bhp from 1.3 turbo in car weighing around 900kgs.
There are a fair few running at around 200hp with a few mods - hybrid turbo, fuel / boost controllers etc.,
There are a few monsters around - one car in Australia with 348bhp at the wheels, and a few specials in Japan which have been stroked to 1.5 with over 400bhp.
Theres one in the UK which is not as modified as these and will crack 1/4 mile in 12.8 secs.

135Ps from a car that weighs 830 Kilogrammes; that gives you a power density of 6.15... Thats very close to that of my Scooby, and you can get a lot more power for very little work. Makes you think doesnt it?

The engines are pretty robust, providing oil is changed regularly. Standard spring/shock combo not brilliant, but easily upgraded. Good fuel economy if required...

Hey,
I have one of the later ones of these, lightly modified. It's fast for it's size and a lot of fun. Handling with uprated springs and dampers is idiot-proof, which is handy...

It's a horrible little car though, like someone said, they are priced very high for what you get, I'd have one if they were dirt cheap.
I'd rather have a mint one of these for same sort of money:

I know how everyone loves French cars here!

Its true that EP82 GT Turbos are not a common car; but thats because they hold their value in their domestic auctions, making import rare. There is always a buyer for a good example; a similar priced vehicle, although virtually unseen in this country, would be a Mazda BG8Z Familia (323) GT-R which is 4WD with a roller bearing turbo and an FMIC: now that really goes like **** off a shovel...

If you can find a good one for £ 1000, buy it quick.
Many people recognise that for the size they offer a lot of performance, and demand keeps the prices higher.
I bought a scruffy one in Japan and shipped it over. This cost around £ 1200, but to make it nice would have required some body parts and a respray. I used the engine in my Toyota Sera and broke the rest of the car for spare parts.

A decent EP82 GT TB; either a '94 or a '95 will cost about ¥185,000 which is about £950; landed, Duty-paid it would stand you about £1,800. 1990/1991 manuals are a lot cheaper as are any automatics; a nice facelifted 1995 GT TB auto might sell for about £300..... Even the automatics are very quick though.

I do see what you're saying, however regardless of rarety (I do see a fair few about), things are only worth what people will pay for them. This is one of the only cars that i really do not understand why people pay so much for them. in my opinion:
1, although quick for the size, they're not acually that fast
2, they look dated (ok, each to their own on that)
3, they're old
4, they have a turbo (how do you know how well a car of this age has been maintained?)
5, most owners i've seen seem to have one because they can't insure a faster car.... ie boy racers
All of this combined would lead me to think the prices should tumble on them. (this is entirely objective by the way, so please no 'just because it's not a scoob...' type comments)

With regards to speed; they have a power density of 6.15; thats SUPERIOR to a UK Scooby so whilst they mightnt have the grip they are very quick.

Turbo Sera - yes engine drops in, swap ECU over. Had to vent the bonnet for the top mounted I/C, but others have relocated it to the front bumper.
The EP82 version is getting a bit dated looking, the newer EP91 Glanza is fresher, but heavier which dulls performance slightly.
Demand is high, mainly from people to are upgrading from normally aspirated hatches such as Fiestas, Saxos etc., who want something unusual, as a stepping stone before getting a Scoob / Evo etc.,
With any used car you don't know its history, but they're often fairly low mileage from Japan. Once the modding bug gets you, the turbo is often replaced with a hiflow/hybrid or a bigger one.

I had a 91,it had an AVC-R,hybrid turbo and FMIC,Blitz decat system and VTA on.i took it on a swap for a GT4 and never took the car seriously till i drove it.Very quick after the wheels stopped spinning!!Pulled 161bhp on the rollers.
Handling was Only fair on standard shocks, could induce massive amounts of lift off oversteer..Great little car i would say.
Sold it for £2500 about 4 years ago..wonder if its still alive!!!

I had once read of a conversion of one of these. Some psycho swapped engines from some version of a Celica GT-4 and instaled the 2litre turbo unit in it. Although personally I'd question the sanity of more than 220 Horses in a FWD 850kg car. But legend has it the little turbo Glanzas are absolute gems. I'd much rather have one than a nissan pulsar GTi, even though they are FWD.
