MK1 ESCORT RS/MEXICO
Just saw a mk1 mexico, on the autotrader website. Those were the days, rwd,1600 crossflow, or in the RS 2.0 pinto, webbers ohhhh those were the days. I think he wants £7000 for it. Fully rebuilt and looks the dogs. How many of us out there had a mk1 or mk2???

My dad had 2 mk1 mexico's , The first was madeira green, he had it for over 12 yrs from nearly new to when we went overseas for 2 yrs, He still wishes he kept it, He`s seen it about but without it`s vynil roof. The second was a bit more mad. Fitted with a supercharger, he got rid of it summit to do with the fact it was a bit to quick for family life and he couldn`t afford to run both of them.

1980 Mk2 RS2000 - Owned it for about 6 years from 1984. Spent £3k under the bonnet only to get 140bhp at the rear wheels on twin 45's and a race cam. Had the engine in and out at least a dozen times - could do it myself in about and hour and a half. Ended up having to fit new inner wings because of rust. Saw the car last year but it's a rust bucket now but I believe someone's restoring it. I'm still considering a MK1 or MK2 with a Cossie lump as a plaything..

I had my mk1 for over 10 years with constant development within a clubbie budget
car started as a 1300gt bodyshell put in a 1600 x flow then a 2L pinto on 45's-then it got serious with a 2.4 holbay cosworth engine on 48's alloy flywheel twin plate clutch 4 speed dog box ,wide atlas ZF motorsports diff etc- it was loads of fun but it ate tyres and i got flustrated by the guys in 4x4 scoobys etc beating me in the stiks lmao
so i joined em hehehhee
good fun but i wouldnt go back to it without a lotto win
had some good crashes still have the titanium inserts to prove it :/

I had a venetian red 1600 sport, gold alley cats and piper cam, K+N filter, followed by a Mk 1 Mexico, olympic blue with white stripes, revolutions. Last one was a Mk2 RS2000, signal orange, built a 2.1 Group 1 motor for it, run with 45 webers, janspeed exhaust, 140 bhp at wheels on sigma's RR, also had LSD, vented discs, bilsteins and lowered 2" all round, was a quick car, more than a match for my mate's Lotus Sunbeam.

I had a Black 1600 Sport, lowered at the back with blocks, K+N filter and A.N.Other webber carb that was in the boot when I bought the car! As a car it was an utter bag of sh*te but I loved driving it, going sideways was ace!
I can't really afford it at the moment plus I don't have anywhere to keep it but I'd love to get another and throw bucket loads of cash (never to be seen again!) at it!
Dingy, any more recent pics of yours and an ETA?

I hate it when I read threads like this!!!!
When I was 19 (Im 30 now) I drove passed this house and saw an RS2000 MK2 on the drive. I stopped my car and starting talking to the lady that was in the garden saying how much I like them (Im wearing my Proffesionals T shirt now LOL) and wanted one since I was a kid.
She told me that her and her husband had split up and it was his old company car that he'd kept. She produced an original bill of sale and the logbook with NO previous owners and she said it had to go aswell as it was taking up space. I asked her how much she wanted for it and she replied......your not going to believe it but 500 QUID. The car had done only 34500 miles and was mint in every way other than a bit of dust and the top of the back seat had perished with being out in the sun.
I had the car 12 months, it cost me a set of steering rack gaters to get it through the MOT and I got £3500 for it when it was sold but I see them now getting anywhere up to 10k for a proper original mint one.
AHH well

Had a 1980 Mk2 RS200 in Black with the bitter chocolate interior, fishnet Recaros. Had it two years back in '86 and loved every minute of it.
Really liked the MK1's but never owned one.

I'm 22 in a month or so and have had 3 Mk2's since 17. All 2 doors obviously.
Started off with a 1.1, then a 1.3, then bought another 1.3 and had a 2.0 Pinto fitted (see Classic Ford Dec 2003 for my car having the transplant), with fast road cam, stage 2 unleaded head, and soon to be fitted Twin 40's. Wanted something relatively tractable in traffic, and that's what i've got..
Loads of fun to drive and the reactions you get are great - they can certainly be a challenge to drive at licence losing speeds though.
Cant ever imagine not having a Mk1 or Mk2, unless i got another 70's rally weapon like a Chevette HSR.
Cheers, Greg.
