Default tuning 330D

I have owned the 330D for 2 months now and although its very comfortable and easy to drive it doesnt give me as much driving pleasure as my nissan

It has a chip fitted but what else can I do to pep it up? a exhaust from the cat back could perhaps be a thought but will it give me much extra power? noise will be better, I may hear the 6 cyclinder lump

Any thoughts?
Mike

This months Evo magazine has a tuned 330d might be worth a read. Gives some good results.

Have a look on the AMD website, they get some big gains out of the 330D.

thanks for the comments guys

I think evo has the DMS chip in it and AMD do a similar chip with the addition of a Milltek exhaust

Dont surpose there is that much more to do without spending massive amounts of money

I think 30 bhp / lbs ft is pretty big considdering its monster torque figure as standard. Not sure but I think that puts it in M3 territory?

This months Evo states that with the DMS upgrade, the power and torque increase as follows:

Bhp from 204 to approx 250.
Torque from 303 to approx 410.

Seems like a massive increase for just over £500. Could be tempted myself.

Thanks for the replies

I am thinking of removing the standard exhaust 1 piece from the down pipe, the std exhaust splits into 2 50mm pipes after the downpipe through 2 cats through a middle box then the back box, exiting in 2 outlets. I assume for emmisions and noise regulations the parts above are fitted

I am planning on taking the std exhaust off and replacing it with a single 70mm pipe with only a backbox, 2 tailpipes

What affect would this have on my car?

Anybody know if reduced back pressure will be a problem on a diesel motor?

www.antandpete.co.uk

Contact these guys, they own Denton Autocare and entered their 330d into the Gumball last year and performed extremely well ( check out the brilliant videos ). They post alot on the M5 forums, you could probably get alot of information there mate.

But in one vid, they drag race with a 355 and manage to stay with it until VERY high speeds.

Hope that link helps.

DMS is the way to go, check out the tests in Autocar, they basically say that if you have a 330d you have to go for it!

if I had a 330 then DMS would be first on my list
413lbft!!!!! jeezus!

330's seems to be heading towards very sensible money.. would make a real change of mindset from the scoob if I ever take the plunge and sell the impreza (only a passing thought on traffic congested days or when stuck on the Mway going deaf after 200 miles )

I've had a "tuning box" fitted to my 330d sport for a few weeks now, with a K and N filter.Took it to Power Engineering on friday. It made 210bhp and 325 lbs ft of torque at the wheels,Not 100% certain of crank figures due to being an auto but was told should be approx 270bhp and over 400 lbs ft.....goes like stink...Alan...The problem with the DMS chip,is they need to access the board in the ecu,by melting the glue on the cover, then attaching a device to the actual chip itself and reflashing it.They will also tell you that it's undetectable by BMW,but i've been told by a good friend who works for BM that if they dig deep enough they can see the fuel and boost maps have been altered. That's fine if your warranty is out of date, but not so good if it isn't.My box takes arround 15mins to fit once you know how....It'll also be for sale soon due to change of plans....

went to santa pod today with the oil burner, had 2 runs
run 1 was with the dsc left on 17.3, the power was limited due to spin
run 2 dsc off, much better 16.1 which isnt too bad really

scoobs where mostly running 14.5 - 15

like to have a fairer test, say a overtake in 3rd gear, would be alittle closer
