Default RWD motoring.

I just dont know what you whippersnappers see in those crazy plastic cars?! Is it because they are easy do drive?

What you really need is the challenge of a rip-snortin' retro RWD smoker, like an 02beemer, a 70's RS or a Triumph dollopo****e sprint. Loads of fun!

Go on, give it a go. Its better than looking like dealer in a baseball cap!

Hows about some o' that then, missus??

Did you miss me?

Ello Beamer hows stuff.??

Hey...I was thinking of grabbing a Lotus Elan +2 130

But you know what?

Parts, chassis rust, trouble with the twin cammer, and messing with the DCOE's to stop them stitting flames would be a bit too much hard work for a daily driver

Speaking of rear wheel drive, I'm going to be looking at an E30 M3 in the near future. Bags of fun in the wet and the dry!!

While browsing the web though I have come across an interesting rumour about there being a very limited number of AWD versions around does anybody know anything about them or is it purely a rumour??

Depends on the type of road sir.

RWD is ultimately best. Who are we to argue with Porsche, Ferrari, Lambourghini, Aston Martin.

My thoughts entirely. 4wd makes crap drivers good though....

4WD = Rally.
RWD = Track
FWD = err, random general cars.

There can NEVER be a 'best' option as it's all dependant on your requirements and what you want out of the driving experience.

fwd, chuckable fun, normally at relatively slower speeds and not too difficult to avoid those hairy moments.
4wd, fun to point and go (apart from those understeery ones ) and you can nearly always make swift progress without having to be the best driver
RWD, ultimately more rewarding and challenging and much more fun as your driving standards improve (esp if you've got a caterfield/elise etc. ) My westie pi55es all over scoobs for fun factor even if not great in crap weather (hence having a 'normal' car as well ).

It's not a complete rule of thumb though and depends on the car. My old corrado vr6 is more fun than my current omega despite it being rwd. As I said, it's about your requirements. Personally I require ulimate fun and comfort (can't do this in one car) so I got two, one each to do the job I want.

If anyone says XYZ is best, then you have to ask, at doing what? for example, scoobs aren't great at powerslides but a good RWD is. Getting home quickly in the rain on crappy roads then the scoob is more suitable. cliche time, horses for courses.

Thats rubbish mate. The only 4WD E30 was a 325ix (I could be wrong with exact model) and I think they were only for the US market.

You do want to get an E30 as they are great cars, only a few minor mods to make even better......Z3 shorter shift stick (pennies from dealer), E36 tensioners for the timing chain (gives extra life on a worn chain), Miltek pipe (you wont believe the difference it makes).

Odd quote seeing as most people would consider a 'real' car as being a road car?

4WD was & still is banned from F1 ...not sure why ...probably the same reason it got banned from TOCA

Nope. Just stating a fact.

4WD has its uses but for a top end road car, with big power and usable on track RWD is the ultimate.

Fastest cars in the world. Ford GT, McLaren F1, Carrera GT.

Own a scoob do you?

I saw it, I agree.

RWD is still my choice when it comes to spending big money on a car.

To really prove your theory you'd need a manufacturer to produce the same car in both RWD & 4WD ...the closest I can think of is Porsche ...with their TT & GT2

Did a bit of digging & got some Nurburgring times for both ...TT 7.56, GT2 7.46 in the dry with the same driver ...So a RWD GT2 is 10 seconds a lap quicker (or 1.3% quicker!), whether this is down to RWD or whether its down to the GT2 having 50 bhp more, being 100kg lighter, Having wider tyres or bigger & better brakes im not sure?

& If anyone can tell me why 4WD is banned from F1, GT & Touring Cars id love to know? ...Can’t surely be because it’s not much use? Otherwise why ban it?

As for fastest cars in the world, I’m sure the Veyron will join that elite ...If it ever sees the light of day that is!

& No, I don’t own a scoob ...& im not sure of the relevance anyways?

let's face it f1 is boring as hell, letting the cars have 4wd will make it even more boring, esp when wet races wouldn't require the same level of skill anymore zzzzz

AWD was banned from Touring Car Championchips because these cars were able to power out of a corner earlier and were superior in corners in the rain. Guess they were less fun to drive though...

Why AWD is banned from F1 I don't know bit the drivers steer the front wheels with the steering wheel and the rear wheels with the accelerator.

There are some 3series AWD cars around in Germany. And a few 5series ones too but both pretty rare. I also remember there was a 3 series AWD convertible tested as an accompanying car in the Rallye Oasis quite some years back. It sat on the back of a truck most of the time and only was taken down for reconnoitering the dunes around when the truck got stuck or lost. Can't remember a road test of any of them.
