4WD E30 M3 Legend
Hey
Can anybody shed some light on a rumour I have come across while browsing the web??
I have been looking up some info on the BMW E30 M3 and have stumbled upon a couple of sites that reckon BMW motorsport produced either a very limited run or a one off, Four wheel drive version of this car. Can anyone confirm this car ever existed or even better have you got any information that i could have a look at.
Thanks
Steve

Cant say i've ever seen one in any mags etc...
But, they did make an E30 325ix, and other models, which were 4WD, so dont think it's impossible for them to have produced a few.

I'm no expert mate. But done alot of research into the E30 M3 and the variants it came in when I was looking for one a a while back and never came across a 4x4 version.
I know they made a 4x4 version of the normal e30 for the south african market which was a 325ix. But this was based on a 325i with a bigger engine and 4x4 drivetrain.
http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/images/icons/icon12.gif. good luck mate.

Alpina did do a B3 2.7 Allrad. Meant to be very good but fragile. This is based on the 325 though not an M3

A fair few years back,we converted an E30 to have a E34 535 sport engine but with the 525iX running gear, with sport LSD..It didnt go in easy and many mods were done. Was entertaining when completed but understeered heavily under power, that flicked into oversteer when provoked harder.
As for 4WD M3...heard a rumour but never seen one in flesh or paper..sorry cant help!!

I had a E30 M3 for about 3 years ( what a great car) and was a member of the M power owners club , i attended many show and events and got to know quite a few M3 die hards but i never heard of or seen a 4x4 M3, if it does exist it is not listed as a factory produced model but one of the bmw tuners may have made a one off as a concept type car.

First, btw, of the Alpine there were build 9 cars!!!
Then there was the "normal" 325iX and, two special versions. The first was the C2

And then, then there was a "testmodel". Under the bonnet it was a e30. It was a normal one where they build in a 6cyl. 3.5l.

But nowhere there is something about a e30 m3 "x". So, there was no car you could buy at a BMW dealer. Even a friend who works for BMW in munich couldn´t state that there was one.

I've definitely always "beleived" that BMW Motorsport built at least one prototype 4wd M3 .. not sure where I got that belief from though? Pretty sure i've even seen a photograph of it too.
A mate of mine is (or was) a mine of information on the E30 so I'll see if he can come up with anything ...
There's a reference to it in the production figures here.
