Default First impressions of Evo 6

Hi,

Well, I've finally got my 6 and thought I would share my first thoughts. Here they are:

1. It definately feels bigger, but also more nimble
2. It feels as tho the aerodynamics are 'working better' - can't explain it really.
3. Not as brutal as the Scooby initially
4. Massive punch when on boost - really quite a bit quicker than either my Type-R or RB5 WR Sport.
5. Awesome brakes.
6. Steering feels lighter.
7. Very docile if you want it to be.
8. Nice growl when giving it some

cheers,
Matt

If its a standard EVO6 how can it be quicker than a standard Type-R (assuming STI-5 here and not civic)

it is the one you think it is

O.K., to be fair, perhaps not a fair comparison, but it was very interesting. The Scooby kinda feels quicker in a way, esp. the Type-R, but once the Mitsi is on-boost, it is really rather lovely

Thumbs up

Hi m3matt

How else are you finding the EVO6? Ie:

Insurance costs, much more expensive than a Scoob?
Petrol costs, is it right you can only get 150 miles out of a tank?
Servicing, is it a pain and very expensive every 4500 miles?
What sort of attention does it get compared to Scoob?
Plus any other interesting thoughts since you have owned it.

I have owned a Scoob previously and have always dreamed of getting an EVO also.

Cheers,
Ant

Hi Ant,

How am I finding it - awesome

I am getting about 200 miles out of a tank - but it is deceptive as they are only 40 litre tanks.

Insurance is more but thats because I declared the mods.

Servicing - fine, the 4500 miles are optional services - I will get them done but they are optional.

Attention - well, yes, more than a scooby. I've had two guys stop and take pictures of it on the high street and a cute girl pulled along side, stopped, waved and grinned and off she went.

As for other thoughts. It is different the scoob, it feels more 'aerodynamic' - hard to describe but it feels planted to the road. A review said that they handle like fighter planes and that is a brilliant analogy. It is also scarily fast

ta,
Matt

Hi Matt,

Hows it going? Nice to see youv'e fount a nice evo! I did say they're a quick car.

Whats she had done to her?

Ive had the scooby decated, and ive got a front mount, headers, and ECU to fit this month so she should be flying soon .

Do you find the evo an easyer/ less brutal drive on the rear end as the Type R?

Cheers Shimy.

Glad you're enjoying it mate. They are stunning cars! I took one for a test drive , but my first impressions went something like this:

"Ouch, my head, ouch, my ar$e. ouch, my spine!! Well, it was a bumpy road; even the salesman was grimicing! I took a perverse pleasure in making him suffer. Find a decent suface though, and that thing just flies! I loved the way it just violently dumps a whole heap of torque on you when the the turbo comes on song and the way it just seems to get around a corner before you even realise what has happened! Amazing.

All the best with it.

thanks guys

How's the scooby going Andy, sounds like you are doing a lot to it!? Compared to the Type-R, it's somewhat less brutal initially but it soon makes up for it

As for mods, it's had the XT330 conversion done so it's around 330hp and torque, all-in-all pretty nippy. Re: handling, it's just different, I might be a wuss of a driver but there is a certain motorway exit that will remain nameless (30mph) that I used to take at 60 comfortably in the Type-R. In the Evo I do it at 70 and thats not even trying...

The ride is, how shall we say, 'firm', but like you say - a decent surface and its awesome and has immense pulling and braking power available when you want it. To give you an idea, from 30-70mph a standard (280bhp) Evo 6 is a full one second quicker than a Lambo Diablo - a Ferrari 550 would beat it tho !

cheers,
Matt

Seriously sounds like you've got a good one Matt. I've always loved Evo's, especially the Makkinenn editions (or however you spell it!)

A friend used to have a 390bhp one in red mmmmm

not sure from the lights the scoob would, a Type-R _maybe_ upto a point but I am shocked at how quick it is really, on the verge of being scary quick. I think the standard 0-60 time is 4.4 seconds and thats a 280bhp one. Tommi Maks are the dogs bollocks! I am going to get the Evo Extreme stickers on mine

The scoobys going fine mate

Not sure what sort of Bhp and Torque to expect when the mods go on but she should be nippy

Ive allways fount the evos to handle corners better than scoobs due to that active yar control, i think!? Brilliant cars!

The Type R's seem to be a bit more demanding through bends due to the power percentage at the rear wheels, making the back end more snappy, which can be alot of fun

Does any one know what sort of power id be looking at when the mods go on?
Front mount, straight through with headers and ECU.

Cheers Shimy.

I Had Some new Ferodos fitted on the weekend after I brought her off you cause the pads were quite shocking in it .

They seem to be realy good, take a wile to warm up but they dont seem to fade for quite some time.

I didn't realise the scooby had remote engine start, did you?

Cheers Shimy.

yeh, it does have remote engine start - just don't leave it in gear!

I'm not sure what disks and pads to stick on the evo next, maybe tarox grooved and ebc greens. I would ideally like AP 6 pots but they're expensive, the brembo's will do at the moment.

supercar? what car?
