Citroen AX brakes.
Maybe an oxymoron but I have a problem with it so I'm looking for some advice.
If I hit the brakes hard, like in an emergency stop, the brakes don't release fully afterwards. I thought it was the calipers and pads binding but looking further this afternoon revealed that wasn't the case.
If I jack up the car and hit the brakes, then look under the bonnet, the brake pedal mechanism has fully returned to position but not the cross bar doofer that attaches to the brake cylinder/servo unit. In this position, I can't turn the jacked up front wheel. If I push the cross bar back into its proper position (it moves relatively freely by hand), the wheel turns easily.
What do you reckon may be wrong?
Thanks in advance,
J.

Mine get surly when the pads are worn and the pistons are sticking way out of the caliper, hence I replace the pads earlier these days. Was thinking of braided hoses to improve the initial bite (actually, that should read induce some initial bite )
Master cylinder isn't so bad as Andyspares do them for £28+VAT. Other option appears to be the cross strut/bar doofer. Apparently they can stick too. There's a thread (only one) on Andyspares forums about it. Marvelous design, multiple pivots, a bar inna tube and a bell crank arrangement, all supported by a subframe, just so I can sit on the right of the car and work the brakes. French AXs must weigh 25KG less than UK ones.
Think I'll try some 3-in-1 and WD40 style TLC before the master cylinder.

I had something similar on my old AX. The problem was caused by useing non OEM Pads - they were sticking in the caliper. Went back to OEM pads and problem solved
