Saxo VTS Track car????
I'm looking into the idea of a track car and was wondering if anyone had any experience with a VTS?? I know a few people on here have Pug 205's and that was a thought but would prefer something a little different! I've seen you can get good ones on a T-V plate for around £2500 to £3000!
What's your thoughts???????

I think its a great idea. They are 935kg standard and you can get that down considerably with weight reduction and the engine responds well to breathing mods (filter, zorst). The handling is ideal for track driving and they can be chucked around a hell of a lot. Also if you want real straight line performance they can be supercharged for £3.5K and that would give you enough power to leave M3s down the straights - seriously!! If I was making a track-hatch it would be vts no questions.

No idea but the car is limpet like as standard and very easy to adjust on the throttle. Standard brakes would be too gay for track use, when they get hot they warp the disks so you'd need to budget for a better set up. That said at 500kg they will be stressed a lot less

iv'e had 2 vts and they are great little cars! stick 306 gti brakes and calipers on and a bilstein suspension kit and youv'e got a car that can out handle nearly anything! gearbox and clutch are very week if thrashed! i looked into superchargeing and it totalled 8k for 270 bhp!!!!! but they do less power for less cash!!

I'd third the above statements. Mine sticks like **** to a blanket lowered, stiffened and on wider rubber but they're pretty awesome standard. Brakes aren't the best but I actually went back to standard specs but non-Citroen parts on mine, cos the performance ones fitted when I bought it were too jarring for everyday use, and they're not too shabby. Performance is good enough but it's the handling that gives it the edge over things in its class.

If I was looking for a VTS track I would just buy this car;
http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/d...?i=34717&s=325
Pug 106 GTi but essentially same as VTS.
Looks ideal for a track car.
Damian.

Most small PSA cars make good track cars, lots of fun, embarass most sports cars. Lots of weight reduction options, most new PSA parts fit, nice and cheap on tyres/brakes etc.
If 306 brakes fit, then so will 307 HDi brakes/206 GTi180s.
They are much thicker and suit track days better. More than enough braking power and dirt cheap.
I saw a video of a S/C Saxo against a M3 on 1/4 mile, both me and the M3 were shocked when it went past.

if a S/C saxo can beat an M3 i'm getting one.
there is this guy in my home town and he has p*ssed on me so many times in his its untrue, he is a balloon but i will tell you what it is bloody quick!!

Look at it like this: A S/C VTS can take power from 120/130 (lets not open that debate) to 230bhp and maybe more if you are really crazy. Standard weight is 935 but if you put lightweight zorst, alloys, carbon bonnet, stripped the interior except two light bucket seats and dash. Now you are probably get down to 750kg without too much trouble.
According to http://www.letstorquebhp.com which has proven fairly accurate such a fwd car would:
Power at Flywheel (BHP) : 230
Weight without Driver (KG) : 750
Power to Weight Ratio (BHP Per Ton) : 311.59
0 - 60 (Secs) : 4.38
0 - 100 (Secs) : 10.54
60 - 100 (Secs) : 6.16
Quarter Mile (Secs) : 12.75
Terminal Speed (MPH) : 110.00
Drag Strip Quarter Mile (Secs) : 12.55
Drag Strip Terminal Speed (MPH) : 112.08
That 60-100mph is outgoing M5 territory! Even if we assume I was a little O.T.T and power was just 200 at 800kg its still:
Power at Flywheel (BHP) : 200
Weight without Driver (KG) : 800
Power to Weight Ratio (BHP Per Ton) : 254.01
0 - 60 (Secs) : 4.88
0 - 100 (Secs) : 12.01
60 - 100 (Secs) : 7.13
Quarter Mile (Secs) : 13.28
Terminal Speed (MPH) : 105.13
Drag Strip Quarter Mile (Secs) : 13.08
Drag Strip Terminal Speed (MPH) : 107.10
All this is a car that scooby/evo/nova/bwm/just about every other driver hates and try as they might can't resist 'blowing' it away - only to have it come shooting past Oh, and with a £3k VTS to work with you could do it for well under £10k!! This is why i see vts's as a good track car. Of course, whether a s/c vts would be suitable/reliable for track is not known

Thank's for your help guy's, think this will have to go ahead! Will just have to strip everything out first and take it one step at a time due to funds
Hopefully will have a beast at the end of it though

Was total guess work moose, never tried to take weight out a car before so not sure how much you could get. What if you were replacing windows with plastic, and going REALLY daft?

7k on a track car,
get this instead: http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/d...?i=35176&s=245
break it, everything bar the shell & suspension, get say £1000 back??
Procure 2 nd hand formula renault : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...sPageName=WDVW
Sell the engine - far too expensive & complex, if it's a good un' should fetch some nice money.
sorry, I've just ***.....
Buy a cage and modify it to include a subframe for the engine ( rear mounted ). say £400
Polycarbonate / Ali bulkhead behind B (?) pillar- 150 quid plus hours, while your'e at it,m do all the side & rear glass in polycarb.
Sell whats lest of the BARC - it should be all the bits they need when they stuff it , the rest you have for the beast.
allow about 600 man hours + 3K to include engine
you now have the trackday/poorman's/wow!!, WTF's that? equvalent of:
7K?

There wouldn't be that much to strip out of a Saxo as they're not exactly luxury liners to start with. It's more the big sofas that BMW/Mercedes/Jaguar churn out where you could shed the pounds.
I've stripped the sound deadening(including the tar),roof lining, carpets, rear seats, parcel shelf, stereo&speakers, air con, unnecessary engine brackets, glove box etc etc from my GTiR and have a kevlar seat for me.I've got forged alluminium wheels, alluminium brake calipers, coilovers and about 7-8 kg off the rotating mass of the engine.I've saved about 70-80kg in total and there's not much left to strip bar the windows and start replacing body panels. It's harder to save weight than you think.
I have seen a rally team prep a shell though and they go the whole hog, more than I'm willing to and strip absolutely everything down to the last nut, cutting off brackets in the car and removing sealant.
