Default American Classics

I'm looking for an American classic. Haven't really decided which 1 yet. Preferably something which needs quite a bit of work so I can restore it to my specification. Anyone know of any good magazines to pick up, or websites to browse? I was thinking of importing 1 with the dollar so good at the moment, but seems too much hassle.

Classic American or Classic ford(i think) are good ones. Ford is a tad specific, but there is usually something floating about in there. I'm pretty sure you can get a "good" example for about 6k that'll just need tidying up. In these you will also find people that import them all the time. If you wanted something cheaper than that i'd probably say ebay motors. Get one from the states if you can, itll be a much more sound car than one that has been in an english barn or shed for the last 10 years of its life. Good luck!

Restoring a car can be a long hard slog (i'm doing it at the moment) on a Lancia Montecarlo.

With the dollar rate so favourable at the minute, it would be a lot better to get one that doesn't need so much work doing to it. Use the exchange rate to get the most from your money.

Nah, it's a doddle. Call up a shipping company (like Pentagon Freight) who have offices here and there.. tell them where the car is, they'll go get it, prep it, and bring it over, all you need to do is collect it from the port and get it SVA'd (not toohard).

Makes sense bringing a car that's been in a nice dry, rust-free country for most of it's life where parts are plentiful, rather than getting one that's been in this god-forsaken rain-soaked country where parts are hard to come by and therefore maintenance may have been lacking..

Preferred the later Rivieras, with the boat-tail design

But how much does a beast like that go for?

Pittsey,

This is not to everyones taste, but the car in question is a 1953 French Ford, but with Facel Metalon coachwork, when new they were more expensive than the Aston Martins of their day..... now fitted with a 3.6ltr Ford Pilot Flathead V8.....ignore the 'E' reg, thats when it was imported...
More details and price could be done by email....
Or... just search the net for 'Ford Comete'..

Its a 46 Chevy Coupe, customised with an 8.0 V8 plus a 8.0 Supercharger. Its a one off and its RHD which was made for the South African market originially. Rear wheels are 15x15 wide just to keep it stable under power, you get more looks in this than an Enzo and its rarer. I would still love and Enzo though

Poor thing is sitting on my driveway and needs a new owner, anyone know if something like this would sell on Ebay?

I think I'm like a lot of folks out there... I've got a real soft spot for fastback Mustangs...

I wouldn't be greedy and ask for a real Shelby 'stang... but something with clean lines a big-block motor woudl be sweet.
