Default Does anyone else drive themselves mad?

I'm very fickle when it comes to cars. I've had my Scooby for coming up to 3 years now but my average car ownership experience lasts about 7 months before I get bored. Basically, I'm always thinking about what car to get next.

The only reason I haven't moved on from the Scoob is because I can't find anything I lust after as much that I can afford that performs well.

Anyone else in this boat?

Yep I've lost count of how many cars I've owned in the last 6 years, its something in the region of 10 cars.......I get bored and disillusioned (all at the same time) I swing from sensible choices to all out impractical choices....

Now though I have got it sorted and I am very happy with what I have and won't be changing in the near future.

This week I've been thinking about a cheap Porsche, a Lexus Soarer, a Z28 Camaro and I even briefly considered a BMW!

If you want real trouble at home, do what I do....buy your new car before you sell your old one, stand back and watch the **** flying into the fan. 3rd time in a row I've done this, can't be long before she stabs me.

Talking

I'm on my third car over the last 2 years....
Kept the first one for around 10 months - impreza GL Looked the part at least - then bought second, a Range Rover which was bloody nice and I've wanted one since I was a kid, but cost me a fortune in getting the engine sorted. Carless for around 5 months, then bought a Justy, which so far has been ok. Unexciting, but can't afford much more at the moment

Luckily, I haven't the money to get another, as otherwise I'd do my test, get a motorbike to go to work on, and get a hugely impractical car for the rainy days

It does my head in.

I want a drivers car. Perfect low down grunt, no turbo, no lag, no vetec, heavy weighted quickrack non-twitchy steering, feedback, RWD, progressive rear- end break away, little understeer, progressive solid brake pedal with no freeplay etc.

It doesn't exist (in my price bracket).

The only reason why I still have the scoob is because I cant afford a decent drivers car...well tell a lie "justify the expense"

Then I can't have anything too flash, scoobs bad enough as it is. I get close to buying something then think "hang on, Your a complete wet blanket about parking your current car on a dodgy street at night...wtf are you going to be like with this?!"

Then I think stuff it, buy a banger. Use that then get a weekend warrior.

Buy banger, keep scoob...scoob never get's used. Think about somthing else, then realise that would never get used.

Sell banger, use scoob

Realise again I can't take scoob anywhere, bored of driving it, think of something else...too flash, cant go anywhere in it...like the scoob...

Contemplate another banger and selling scoob and not bothering about a fast car

Currently about to grap a E30 320 BMW auto

Mates then drag me into a 3rd share of a trackday car (already own half a Land Rover)...guess who will have to garage it and maintain it (me being the only one that can fix cars)...Arrggh!

Got to agree with Ali-B

I often change the daily hack. I've had the Scoob for over 3 years now, since I've owned it I've gone through 1 Fiesta, 1 Cavalier and 2 Capri's (one of which is up for sale . I've also got a Pug 205 GTi waiting in the wings

Ali- why don't you do us a list of all the cars that you've considered then rejected?

Wouldn't an old shape M3 fit the bill? Especially a de-badged M3 compact? wouldn't that be a real q-car?

Yup! I am getting the urge to change the Scoob, BUT because i am using it every day i think thats part of the reason that I am getting the urge to change it just doesn't feel 'special' anymore.

...guess what the trackday car is (well, it's at the top of the shortlist).

My list of considered cars list is huge. Think of every production car since 1970 that has a new or 2nd hand value less than £20K. More recently it's around the £10K mark as that is as much as I can manage to get in one lump without resorting to loans or selling stuff.

Ali, I'm with you.

My ideal car:

loads of low down torque, no lag, extreme top end rush, sounds like a demon, safe secure handling with loads of feedback, supple but taut suspension, cosseting yet raw when pushed, auto gearbox with perfect controllability when I want it, 80mpg, 200mph and 0 - 60 in 2.5 when shortshifting and using half the revs

One of my "nearly" cars was a Ford F250 7.3L V8 Diesel extended cab long bed pick-up. Then I measured my drive and discovered that it would stick out onto the pavement by about 4 feet, whereas at the moment I fit the Impreza and Clio on there with no problem
