Was having a discussion about road car handling characteristics with John F, and if any UrQuattro people here wanted to add any comments as to how they handle compared to Impreza's I think it would be helpful. Go here for the thread... http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthread.php?t=403111

I have a MY03 WRX STi JDM

and a 1987 ur quattro WR 10v (non torsion I think)

The Audi has a cast iron block and so is front heavy, the scoob has an ali engine and it's flat 4 gives a low centre of gravity. So the scoob naturally has a handling advantage and with it's quick rack it is really noticeable. Added 20 years of suspension and handling development the cars are not comparable.

The Audi makes a fantastic mileage muncher, the scoob on an A/B road will leave the Audi on such roads.

Damian.

I drive an A6 2.8 Quattro (still for sale if anyone interested) and whilst it is fast
and handles well it just simply not in the same league as a scooby.

It has great grip but you just cant chuck it around liek a well sorted classic!!

Yeah i know but i am just generalising!!!

i was behind an Audi TT tonight and i was thinking why is a Scoob miles better to drive i mean it has similar horsepower the same four wheel drive and i dont think its loads heavier (correct me if i am wrong)

When Subaru unleashed the Impreza turbo upon the public as bland and ugly as it is when those first customers took delivery they must have thought WTF!!!!
it must have been a revalation a bit like the original Audi Quattro.

Strange I had a 1984 white UR-quattro like the pics but on 16" rims when they were big (!) and rare. It was incredible but incomparrison with my STi3 I don't know now. It was probably in a similar leauge to the scooby given the relative increase in the preformance of everything else on the road.

I had mine 15 years ago and 1.6 Cav's or Sarah's and weren't fast, nevertheless just like the drivers of todat's mundane machinary they can't even start to contemplate the speed and safety in which you can perform an overtaking maneouver!!! Atleast we're normally out of there way.

Back to now, it would be interesting (and probably memory destroying to the extent that my rose tinted spectacles would be thoroughly crushed!) to do a comparative test between the two.

UK v UR and STI (RA?) v Sport

Hope I didn't deviate too much.....
