Default 22B - WR1 - MR340

Im in a bit of a difficult situation.... Im looking to get rid of my P1 but i really dont know what to get next.
I feel that it comes down to 3 motors.... the 22B, the WR1 or i turn to the dark side and buy an MR340.....
Anybody got any opinions ? maybe you know of a different motor for me ?

I'd personally go for a car with the warranty.
I really dont know why people pay £25k+ for an 8 yr old classic impreza that is no better than a Type R/P1.

I'd go with the WR1

Because its a classic Its also the one which wont lose much money at all, if that bothers you, and will turn the most heads.

No better than a Type R / P1? Well the P1 doesnt have an electrical controllable centre diff so thats not really a comparisson. Ok, the 22b is based on the V4 Type R but its not that similar if you look at the fine details.

Warranty wouldn't bother me with a 22B - whats the worst that can happen?

Id go with the EVO, more car than the WR1. 22B is a car id love to own, and very capable, but things have moved on a long way since 1998.

My thoughts exactly Mitchy but Ive been offered a UK spec 22B with warranty now so i dont know what to do...
Everything i read about the WR1 is positive but i just dont know, there seems to be a lot of them coming up for sale lately and if they are such a good car, why are people selling them so soon ?
I dont know about the EVO.... It might perform well but it doesnt really do it for me on the looks....

Its a 22b!!! what more does anyone need to say. Its the ultimate Subaru and always will be IMHO.

Good luck with the choices.

22B would be a lovely car to own because its rare and special, but not really a techno advance on your P1. Also wheels/parts are expensive. Saying that,I'd love to own one!
In the real world I'd go for a Evo8, not MR340 though.Read what they say about it on www.rcdevelopments.co.uk. I'd get a std Evo8 and pay £5k and get 350+ BHP with potential for more.
If you d'ont like the look of Evos(and I agree) check out xtremes(ralliart) website under used cars and there is a white Evo8 xtreme SC in white that looks the 8llox!

Good luck!

If your going for a 22B just be wary that a prang in it could cost you not only in serious money but time off the road, a long time.
I really was considering a 22B a while back but the lack of parts for it just put me off.

My decision isnt based purely on the performance....
I want to buy something i wont get bored of looking at. I dont think the Spec C is the right car for me, it looks like any other new age Scoob. As much as i like the shape and style, i cant justify paying 30K.
As for the EVO, i just dont know, ive seen a couple now down the local dealership but i just dont know if it flicks my switch....

Why cant Subaru build us a nice new 2dr coupe ???

I would quite willingly pay 30K for that !

My 22B has been sitting on my driveway for almost 5 years now. In that time I've also had an S4, S3, my01 WRX, MY04 STIPPP and a 996 C4S. I've sold all of those on in that time leaving no regrets.
I still smile when I come home and see the 22, I still peak at it out of the upstairs window when it's been washed and is looking lovely. Driving it is always a pleasure...I've started driving it to work now and I just don't see how I'll get bored of it. Mines a UK car with just a 330mm brake upgrade and APracing clutch...power is better than it came out of the factory though, after a Subaru UK rebuild it came out at 300/290..which is nice
However..buying one is quite scary...the rarity of the parts...well I really don't want to crash.

Depends what you want out of a car. The MR340 is the fastest car I've ever driven. I also think the looks are good. I went for the 340 from a STi 04 PPP and to be honest there worlds apart. I looked at modding the STi but you've got to think of when you sell the car on, you've never going to get your money back.
There are some bad reports about the way the MR340 derivies it's power (Piggy back ecu etc) but I look at it as It's got 3 years warranty and if anythings going to happen I'm sure it will before the warranties up. But saying that I have had not issues to date.
You cannot beleve how rapid these cars are, I was in shock for the first week and only getting used to it now after maybe 6 weeks.
The 22b is proberbly the ultimate classic Subaru but it's old technology.
The WR1, I nearly bought one then glad I didn't.

I agree the 22b is special - yes there are faster Subarus......but they are not special.

A true limited edition - not just a slighly different colour with a set of 18inch wheels.

I have a 22B, I love it to death, but as I have said many times, you should only buy one if you are prepared to forget about its value and think of it as something to keep for ever.

It can be an everyday car, but if you are buying it for something to fill the gap until you move on, then I wouldn't bother. Its only worth buying if you are in love with it, because apart from an incredibly different drive and much better looks it isn't a million miles away from just as capable type rs.

If not in this position, then if I were you I would buy either an evo, or save your money until the new impreza comes out in may. Otherwise anything you buy will take a massive hit.

22B is a fantastic car until you bend or break it. Parts will take ages to be made and availability is restricted.

The Evo is a great car, but i've heard bad things about the mapping and hesitation. The WR1 may be an odd colour and kind of a MY04.5 but at least it's destinctive and at the moment holding value quite well.

Or if you can wait until November(for UK cars) or want an import you could just go for an MY06. They should be out in Sept/Oct 05.
