Default Mark 1 escort engine size?????

Hi people, just wondering if any one out there knows how to tell the size of a crossflow engine without tearing it apart. The engine numbers are as follows:
711m 6015aa the casting number is t19.

If anyone can help it would be great, also it may help to know that it has the orig ford carb on it which is a single choke. We have been told that it is a 1.3, but the guy who it was bought off clearly didnt have much of a clue!!!!

I think the GT came standard with a weber carb. You'd be best of with a weber carb, to get some more poke out of her.

t19 is the cast number
think they increment every cast or summot , the more desirable ones have a lower cast number iirc

another way is look at the back of the engine where it meets top of gearbox bell housing.

1.1/1.3 the block is level with top of bell housing
1.6 block is about 2cm higher than top of housing.

this is 10 year old memories here so sorry if its wrong

Yeah thats what I remeber about the 711's.

also back then we just used to shove 1300 pistols in the 16's for a instant(although small) boost to compression/performance as they run the same size pistons.

I heard a similar one, on a 1300 the block is level with the top of the water pump whereas the 1600 is an extra inch or so higher. I was made up using this method to find out that the 1300 engine, sold to me by a chap from the AA was actually a 1600!

I got caught out that way too ( The water pump / block height size) When I where a lad, I had a 1.1 Mk1 with a 1.6GT Engine and Twin Carb and 4 Branch. Insured it as a 1.1 of course, and then a friendly plod pulled me over, asked questions, then took a look at the engine. Fortunately for me, he believed me when I said I didnt know it was a 1.6, but then forced me to take the car off the road, and I had to put a 1.3 in its place but at least I got of with the insurance bit. Some Plod are VERY knowledgeable! DOH
