Question Anyone got the new Golf GTi yet?!

Evening all,

I am seriously considering the above for the next company motor. Have now driven it twice and love it. I was hoping if anyone had actually got one by now and would like to give a little write up.

Any comments, thoughts, and experiences welcome.

Thanks in advance!!

its a nice car to drive, has good handling for FWD car, very comfy and has almost no turbo lag only thing I dont like is the fact that it "blends" with the rest of the Golfs should look sportier IMO... but this is a good thing if you dont want to "shine" on the road and dont want to make other peoples heads turn after you

Mossman

Ive got one. One of my favourite cars of all time and most know how long my list has been. Great engine and I love the whole feel of the car. Whilst not as quick, it keeps reminding me of my RS4. Prefer it to a VRS

Just configured one on their website. 5 door, Tornedo Red, DSG, 18" alloys. £22500. Anyone know if there's any deals to be had? I haven't heard a bad review on it. For this price though a used R32 has to be considered.

Has anyone got any pics of the DSG?? Is it a "proper" paddle set up like a M3 CSL and a 360 F1 or is it buttons on the steering wheel?!

TA!

It has small paddles behind the steering wheel as opposed to buttons, however to get these you have to specify the multi function steering wheel as well as the DSG gearbox. This is another 515 quid on top of the DSG box!

I have the same engine in our Audi Sportback 2.0T and it really is fine, though putting all that torque/power through the front wheels when pulling away sharply gets the T/C light flickering more than in any other car I've owned LOL
I also have the DSG with flappy paddles...
as an auto box in sports mode it is fantastic, shifts down agressively as you slow, seamless power on acceletation upshifts...but using the paddles themselves...you may as well be playing Grand Tourismo and using a PS2 controller to drive. I just end up feeling redundant with regards to shifting gears and so just leave in full auto mode...only flicking down at tight corners and roundabouts if gearbox hasn't caught up.
Great engine and gearbox does everything it claims (but I prefer 'proper' manuals still)
I had a look at the Golf GTI recently, but being an old fart I was horrified by the cost of the new peoples car, and bought another Porsche instead LOL

Has to be said that that car looks stunning Wish. I'd definitely say it's a head turner

Mossman, I'd say there's deals to be had on the cars if you're a cash buyer without a part ex. Mysteriously my local garage was willing to drop the best part of 2 grand off a 19k golf ex demonstrator... Some garages do make it feel like they're doing you a favour by talking to them - and as C mentions, this is the "people's car" - but just keep going until you get a salesman who actually wants to make a sale.

Mines on order. Should be april delivery. Blue graphite, 5 door, 18's, leather, 6 disc arm rest and 'leccy folding dimming mirrors(they improve the handling....)
Makes for an expensive golf that's for sure!
Tried several dealers but no discounts. Most say they are struggling to keep demo's. My local offered me their's at full list plus the cost of the penalty imposed by VW for selling it too early. They have already sold two this way....

cash buyer, no px.

flamin' eck! Ignore me then John... I was admittedly looking at GT TDIs - different kettle of fish entirely it seems. Sorry!

If that were the case, I'd be waiting until the furore and hype about 'em dies down a bit and live with what I've got...

I'd get a copy of What Car? magazine. Sainsburys bank (IIRC) sponser the target price scheme and guarantee to beat the target price (you need to take out finance through sainsburys, and it seems a good APR) They currently quote morew than £1k off a new GTI www.whatcar.co.uk
I agree this sounds optomistic though, Drivethedeal.com quote a saving of £10.00 LOL

I know what you mean chiark. But then the 'new gti' could always suffer 'new mini' syndrome, several years into production, high used values, no real discounts on new and still a 6 month waiting list!
Well thats what I'm hoping anyway

Love the look of your car Wish. Is that the standard black or a metallic? I've got a testdrive booked for the weekend. I'm wavering towards a black or white (I know, residuals alert!) 5 door with 18's. Keen to hear about anyone who gets a discount or decent finance from VW.
