Default Pocket rocket well kinda !

I have started playing with my smart roadster as I have gone as far as i want to with my scoob !

I have been trying to work out some figures to see how close I can get it to a scoob in terms of performance

Weight of Smart roadster is 790KG

Weight of a a new age 03 WRX Subaru is 1395KG !

Ie the Scooby is approx 76% heavier !

OK so a std WRX is 225 BHP

To make the Smart the same power to weight as that means that the Smart needs 127 BHP

MY smart is currently 135 BHP without new turbo or gearbox (which will remove the jerkyness) & then there is a small matter of a supercharged Hyabusa engine trnasplant that may well be fitted later in the year !

The Smart handles as tell as the scoob trust me ! it stops well & has no problem putting the power down !

I know classic scoobs are lighter than 1395 & also have more power !

But in the real world u need substantial power increases to pull away from another car !

Anthing I have forgotten ?

I do have an Impreza too !

Plus every Subru owner who has been in it has been impressed ! Plus in this weather its great cos it has heated seats !

plus it has paddle shift !

My comment was FAR cleverer than that - smart's have a hairdresser image, but look at that of scoobs these days

As I'm way more interested in cheap rorty thrills than a supersaloon which I have to take to 3 figures before I'm vaguely excited, I'm genuinely interested in your project. I'd try to lose the turbo though, hate lag.

Does the bike engine have enough torque? And I guess you've sorted the old reverse gear issue?

Like I was trying to suggest if I was worried about image I wouldnt drive a scoob now days !
I can have more fun in the Roadster than I have in the Scoob !

The Bike engine project is still in infancy stages ! but have also been told that a V8 would fit under the front so thats an option too !

Cracking little cars, shame about the naff gearbox. First car I have ever driven with gearbox lag.

What will you replace the gearbox with?

How did you get 135bhp?
Even if I remap my Brabus Roadster I'll only get about 125bhp.

A V8 engine! Come on, the engine would be as heavy as the car, you'd be driving round with the front scraping along the floor.

Where do they get the 698cc engine from? Is it based on a Japanese 660cc? Those are the best selling engines in Japan at the moment because of the micro-car exemptions and have a lot of tuners working on them.

If so, there are mods out there for these blocks that take them up to ridiculous power outputs.

Also, I take it it's a 3-pot and not a 4-?

Paul,

Have you modded the gearbox as well? At times it drives me nuts on our City Coupe

136 is pretty impressive, hope it all holds together

Do you clean and polish it with Swissol?

Gearbox is standard at the mo but with the paddle shifts it can be made pretty smooth !
