Default Ford Focus ST

Looking in the local paper motoring journal this week, they discussed the new Focus ST. Apparently its at Geneva next month. Generally poo-pooing what has been said in Autoexpress of late and stating their facts have come from some Ford product affairs manager in Warley. Here's a summary of what was said :-

Tops out at nearly 150 mph
Power from the 217 bhp 2.5 Volvo Turbo engine
Could even sell for less than £18000....(Bet it doesn't )
Comes in Panther Black, Silver, Performance Blue, Electric Orange
Six-Speed gearbox FWD
18 inch alloys, twin exhausts, roof spoiler, side skirts

If Ford do it with the employee discount like they do on the outgoing ST170 then I may well take a look.

On your drive from January 2006.

Anyone heard anything else/different ?

I take it that engine will have a lot of tuning potential then, 217 Bhp from a 2.5 ltr Turbo is poor.........

this version is same as the new s40 t5 engine(2.5l), this version has a poor compression ratio, compared other t5 versions, my s60 t5 has the 2.3 and has a better com ratio, also the s60R, has the same 2.5l, has a better com ratio in its version.

the best chip for the new s40 t5, has gained a extra 30bhp, 220 to 250.

my s60 has 250, give a chip, comes in with 310bhp, same chip company for cars, the new s60 has a 2.4l, 260bhp standard, chip gives it 330bhp.

so the focus problem is going to be the poor com ratio to start with, is hard to change com ratio's?

How much of that gain from 220 to 250 is limited by the turbo installed rather than the compression ratio? As per the other thread, 9.0:1 is hardly excessive. The Seat Ibiza guys also manage 200 BHP/litre on 9.5:1 compression on standard internals.

Although the compression ratio has an effect I think you'll find the main differences between the S60 engine and the Focus's is a smaller turbo hence you can get a lot more from the S60 with a remap....

The S60R has KKK turbo's, the rest of the T5 range has Mitsubishi Turbo's.

i found out that the new s60 t5, does not chip to 330bhp, only 300bhp, tuning company made a mistake in there details!

the s60r and s40t5/focus st engine, has different internals, s60r has stronger internals, bigger turbo, etc
