feds to get fq400
whilst passing my local mitsi garage last saturday i thought i'd have a look in. my mate asked the salesman if they'd sold many of the fq400 and he reckoned that the police have bought half of them. not saying its gospel just relaying what he told me with a straight face.

I'll put my money on that being bull. The police won't splash that sort of cash on a car that requires as much servicing as a Lancer, as well as part's costing as much as they do, etc, etc. Sure enough, they ran 528i's.....why? Cause it didn't warrnt going particularly higher engine size in way's of servicing and fuel bill's. Not saying every county is the same, but they won't be far off it.

Good news for the public as the car will be in the garage every other week. IIRC Traffic cops do well over 100k a year & the EVO 400 needs servicing every 4k...That's at least 25 visits per year.........

i saw one of these on sunday on my way back from Bolney on the M23
unmarked police FQ400 in silver!!!!
he had pulled a motorist over on the hard shoulder and was just getting back into his FQ when i went past on the inside lane.
obliged him with a quick blip on the throttle for a nice POP
beware they're out there!!!
still at tleast you can feel comfortable that you'll get a nice lead on them before the turbo finally comes on boost on the FQ

A trained Police driver in a normal Evo is a formiddable combination, I mean a proper Police trained driver not PC Plod who has done the basic test. Cant see why they would need the FQ400 as your average punter whatever they be in wont get away from a 260 with the added support of a helicopter and 20 or 30 Motorway cars. Mate of mine on traffic used to get frustrated with the T5's though, more than enough power to stay with a Scoob on the motorway, but if they left the motorway a different story, ploughed straight on and the brakes caught fire.

In the part of Herts I live there are at least 3 unmarked Octavia Vrs's around.
They are pretty quick, although I did read somewhere that a mistake was made by one tested by autocar that was sub 7seconds to 60mph, it turned out Audi had supplied one with circa 225bhp !! Instead of the usual 180bhp.
Im sure it still goes on, supply magazines a slightly tweaked version of your car for road testing !

I personally would choose a S60R as an undercover high speed saloon. It will easily match the rolling pace of the 400 beyond 100mph and although not having the same handling ability, it would handle very well with AWD etc. And i bet a Volvo will sit at 160 mph for a lot longer than an Evo.
As has been said, total waste of tax payers money !
The Skoda Octavia's are a superb choice, quick enough and only £15k retail, which means the police will get 15% knocked at least, and it makes me feel better

No Force is going to buy FQ 400 at £45k. The reasons Imprezas were tried and turned down were fuel/ servicing/tyre/brake costs Thats on standard cars. Health and safety dictates to what degree Police will persue a motorist. Long before a car such as the FQ400 would have been considered as the appropriate tool the persuit would have been called off due to public safety. 260 Evos maybe......FQ400 I stand to be corrected with conclusive evidence

I can't see them running these as intial feed back is that many FQ400's have gone back for warranty work already....& that's driving them a road legal speeds, not the 159 mph that some forces manage.....

By the looks of things, you need lots of mechanical sympathy to drive an FQ400 and coppers don't have any
Most police class 1 drivers don't need something as fast as that to keep pace with a car in a pursuit anyway.

Swindon Police did have a FQ300 last year for a while.
They hold the national fleet show for Police at Wroughton airfield near Swindon.
I remember seeing a few car transporters with loads of cars all stickered up with Police logos.
The following week there was an article in Fleet News saying they were trying out Evo's. I thought then, I wonder if I'll see one and darn me, within a month I saw the Police with a marked Evo in the town centre and on the M4 a few times.
I haven't seen it for some time now. Perhaps servicing costs took their toll and they needed the cash to buy all the camera vans that scatter the M4 every 1/2 mile.
