Audi S8/A8 - Opinions
Any opinions on the above. Looking for a daily driver but not that concerned about high running costs.
Been looking on autotrader and they seem ridiculously cheap second hand for an all aluminium chassis and body 4wd V8 power fully loaded with excellent build.
Not interested in the pre 99 or 2.8 models.
Any experiences please?

The most fun you can have in a barge .

He reckons it's a fantastic car, quite progressive when it slides, bags of torque and better fuel economy than I get from the 'preza.
I'd say go for it!!!

Hi Wilf - I've got a 51 plate S8. Part exed my P1 for it. Watch Ronin then you'll buy one
Seriously though I have been very impressed. In astraight line they are v.fast and the handling is v.good (considering their size) obviously not a scoob but in real world conditions not far off.
Build quality is amazing. Cabin is fantastic. Vast space and all the toys you could want. Double glazing sat nav TV cruise etc etc....
They are most at home on the motorway (not to detract from driving on other roads which is great) but long distances become pleasant rahter than a chore.
Boot is massive if you have a family.
Running costs are fairly expensive but on a par with my P1 I would say. I am getting 20k between services (variable intervals) and it gets a good run every now and then. 20mpg mix of 70 % motorway cruising 15% urban driving and 15% making progress
Depreciation is fantastic for used buyers as you will have seen. i bought a 1 year old with 30k on the clock for half price
I plan to run it till it dies which hopefully will be a long time.
Any other questions let me know
Paul

My father in law replaced his A8 4.2 Quattro Sport with one of the last S8's (Audi were flogging them off cheap (£ 30k something)
He loves it.
He's driven other A8's as courtesy cars, including the new shape ones, and he feels the most important thing to have is the Sports Pack suspension.

I recently had a longish trip in a new A8 4.0 V8 TDi.
By far the best car I've been in and I've been in a lot of high end BMW's, Merc's and Jags.
The shove from the 479lbft V8 TDi is awesome when overtaking.
The build quality makes Mercedes look very poor.
Cheers

Right. Have taken the plunge and bought a 3.7 V8 Quattro Sport. I know its not the 4.2 but the car I'm buying is in such good nick for the money its hard to refuse. Its also intended as my commute car so I'm not going to light up any tarmac with it.
Medders, I may get in touch once I pick it up with a few questions.

Some of the running costs are eye-wincingly expensive. Getting anything like electric seats or windows sorted will hit you hard, and front suspension components (need to replace at c. 100k) will set you back £400 per side.
Other than that, the engines are good and strong, the servicing is reasonably, and they go very well.

doesnt sound worse in running costs than a well modded scoob..
think of the suspension costs as buying a set of coilovers for the scoob
S8 and the M5 are the only barges I would consider buying.. mainly as you can't be accused of needing slippers and walking stick if you own one
Nice choice mate.

You should still be able to light up some tarmac with a 3.7
Think of all that low down torque ....
What spec did you get ?
Enjoy
