Default What fast esaste car under £7000?

Hello

My brother is in the market for a fast wagon and it must have the following:

Over 200bhp
4WD or RWD
Manual gearbox
Leather seats
Air conditioning
Not over 10 years old
Not over 70,000 miles
and be £7k or under

He has had an Impreza and doesn't want another one and is trying to find a Legacy GTB or a Forester STi but can't find one of the right spec/price.
He has driven a Mitsubishi Galant VR4 but didn't like it and it was an auto (did they do a manual?)

Sooooo any idea what he could buy? He is driving me bonkers

Thanks

Mark

I think a Volvo V70R AWD will do the trick. 260hp with a haldex type system. All the toys etc.

Volvo's are monster mid range cars and can pick on real exotica on the motorway etc.

I owned a T5 for some time and they are fantastic cars. build quality, reliability etc

Audi S2? RS2's are even better (315bhp), but think you'll struggle to get a good one for that money. S2 would be the option i'd go for...

An S2 is a reasonable car - but slower and smaller than the Volvo and more expensive to run / service and buy...........

Other than that Omega Elite or MV6. 2000> model should be in that braket

You struggle to get an RS2 for less than £15k Especially a RHD version. Unfortunately

Thanks Mark
Well I'm surprised he didn't like it with the tiptronic box thats his choice

You can get Manual VR4's but they are extremely rare and I cant remember if the estate does comes with both options

the older VR4's pre 99 only has 260bhp where above 99 280hhp
I have a VR4 estate (Legnum) and love it

S2 would be decent.

No chance of an RS2 that's not about to blow up at that money

Galant VR4 also good, or a legacy turbo can be had V cheap, S reg one near me been up for ages that started at 6k and is now up at 4900 in the window.

You can get a high mileage BMW 328 Touring for that money. All the toys, fantastic build quality and 193BHP. Actually has great power all through the range.
The 99 - 01 Tourings were all SE badged so had cruise/climate/PDC etc.

Mate of mine's just paid a grand for a P plate W124 Merc 280TE, creamy 24V straight six, seamless 4-matic gearbox, and enough room in the boot to park a small car

It fits all your criteria except the mileage (125K), but as everybody knows W124's are the worlds best built car, and as you have another £6k over what he paid, I imagine you'll easily find an example of the even quicker 300TE that'll fit within your parameters

AWD is only available on the V70R as per my post

Unless you get a 850 AWD which is more agricultural than sporting.

Don't even think of an S2, only good in a straight line too heavy, numb steering and when they go wrong whooooooooooooe will be you, the price of parts are horiffic. I know i once (shiver) had one.

Good suggestion though mike. I used to run a breathed on Volvo T5, and the FWD bit drove me nutts. If i buy another i will get the R AWD V70 personally. A lot of car for your cash. I assume the Saab is a similar set up - ?!?

Hello

Thanks for all the advice so far.

One question anybody driven an Audi A6 2.7 turbo? It has a detuned old S4 engine but that's all I know. Good car or barge?

thanks

Mark

I have a 320TE (82k miles) and can agree with the above, rapid for a big car and every option going..£3.7k

TE suffix stopped in '93 so probably not a P plate unless you mean an E280..very good price if it is!
