New VW Jetta an Impreza Rival?
http://www.sky.com/skynews/xml/artic...215179,00.html
Don't get me wrong it's a nice car, but I can't honestly see someone struggling to decide between a Jetta and an Impreza - two totally different cars!
Volkswagen Jetta
Likely price range: £15,000 to £21,000
On sale: Early 2006
Saloon rivals: Ford Focus, Honda Civic IMA, Kia Cerato, Mitsubishi Lancer, Mazda 3, Nissan Almera, Renault Megane, Saab 9-3, Subaru Impreza, Toyota Corolla, Volvo S40

What are you on BedHog? They are both smallish sized family saloons. Pretty much EXACTLY the same class they are fighting over. As cce says, there are other models than the turbo, same for the Lancer too.

I can say one thing for sure, the new Jetta 25000Nm/deg of torsion
is at least twice as rigid as the Impreza. Actually it could be more, as subaru won't even release the data. If I were to be in an uncontrollable crash situation I know the Jetta would do a much better job of saving my life. Yes we all know the Impreza drives better, but isn't it time Subaru steped into the 21st century and built a car with German like solidity?

VW has a 2.0 Turbo Petrol Engine and a 4WD system that could easily drop into the Jetta, so it could compete with the Impeza Turbo if VW wanted to.
I would certainly take the Jetta instead of a 2.0 NA Impreza.
The Jetta will also come with the very latest diesel technology which is one area that Subaru needs to address soon or they will become a small volume sports car importer to Europe.
The dealer network cannot manage with Impreza Turbo sales alone.
Cheers
