Red face Residual disasters - why do people do it ??

There is a bloke who works next door to where i do. He is the MD of the company but loves his BIG beemers.........

So he bought a S or T reg (can't quite remember) 750il beemer (new) to replace his older 750il. So i was shocked when i saw his latest car today - an 05 reg 760 !!!

it is beyond me why he has to have that model - maybe it is a top of the range requirement he has - but spending £80000+ on a car that he can sell for £15000 in 5 years is not my idea of a 'wise' buy.

How do these people stay in business !?!?

Depends how well the business does, if he makes £100k a week then it isnt much, and besides no car is an investment its there to be enjoyed, so there is never a 'wise' purchase when it comes to cars really.

Don't know if they still do it, but BMW were giving 750 owners rebates as a good will gesture to the offset part exchange cost for a new one, due to huge depreciation.

Obviously they would only do it if you complained to the HQ in writing though

If he's the MD then it may well be about image, image is i guess an indication of success profitability of the business. so the MD needs to portray that image.

I always remember a guys comment on here when someone slated him about a big money spend that the other guy thought ridiculous ....... ''because I can'' was his reply. Nothing you can say to that I dont think.

Personnaly, I think he might just like the car. What's wrong with that?? If he doesn't mind losing all that money, then that's his business how he spends it, surely.

I'm sure that people think buying s Impreza is a bad buy, cos they don't exactly hold there value all that well. If that's what you want to spend your money on, then that's what you will spend it on. Personnaly I think spending thousands of pounds extra on cars, tuning/styling them up is a complete waste of money, but I wouldn't have a go at someone who did.
Was on the news a few years ago, a guy spent £30k on ICE, new seats with TV's, playstation etc, on a £30k Audi S3. ???????????????? But If that's what he wants.

If he can afford 80k on a car then i'm sure he's not short of a bob or two so why not???

For all you know he could be a multi millionaire and 80k is not much to him

BMW's are unbelievabley expensive to service in my opinion. Going by some of the bills in the history on my old M3 I wouldn't be suprised to hear of an inspection service and a few parts on a 750i adding up to nearly a couple of grand.

Exactly he will obviously be buying it through his company, so its not really his money hes burning. If you own a company which turns over enough then why not.

No doubt he pays a shed load of company car tax, but then from the sounds of it he can afford that.

LOL @ the taste comments, he's probably got so much money that he doesn't care - or who knows he might even have a few extra toys sitting at home...

My father in law used to run 7 Series BMW's when he was in business, sold the company and now drives an Audi A4 Diesel, previously a Diesel C class.
