Building a track car...
Ok, the budget will not get you anywhere near a Radical.... and you don't want to bend your Scooby so...
205.... Golf 16V GTi .... 200sx for some rear end malarky.... where to look?
I would like to buy a *done* tin-top track car for knocking about and learning the ropes.
Not a chav'd up look alike but the real deal.
Where to start looking for a caged up beast and how much to budget...?
Sorry, know we've done this one before but up for it now!!
A 2k pug, caged setup for saf FWD understeer? or say a 200SX for some sideways grins? E30 ? Safe with a 16v golf???!!??
What have you got and more importantly SELL ME YOURS!!!

From experience, it will be a lot cheaper in the long run to buy a car that someone has spent a fortune converting, or an ex race car. I sold an ex cup clio racer with only 2500 miles on it for £4k not so long ago, and it was road legal bar the paperwork (which was all in order, I just hadn't sot round to sending it off).
By means of comparison, I paid £800 for a clean 205 with an Mi16 lump ready to fit. Seemed cheap. By the time I'd fitted the engine, done the brakes, suspension, cage, chairs (I know, but my **** no longer fits in 'seats') harnesses, extinguishers etc etc etc I'd laid out £7k. Sold it for £2300 as I just couldn't get on with fwd.

Many people get the enjoyment of converting the car from standard specification as well as the end result.
Buying a preprepared car from somewhere like the adverts on Motoring News or Autosport, but check the car as one persons idea of top quality workmanship is very different to another.
If you have any plans to race the car in the future bear in mind different regulations on what you can and can't do.

I spent the last two years building a locost from scratch!! now gettin to race it!! hehehehehehe its GOOD!!!
decide what you want it for, how much your budget is ( then double it!!) and do you want it for fun or are you gonna race it. if it's just for trackdays then get what you fancy and just have fun, it doesnt really matter what car it is as long as you enjoy it. if you fancy racing it through the 750mc or such then be prepared to spend big money to be competitive. i spoke to a guy whose moved from the hot hatches to locost cos he couldnt compete. he reckoned if you spent 5 grand gettin your car sorted then somebody else would spend 10!! locost is a bit chepaer and you can pick up a good one for around 4-5 grand and then you can RACE!! or you could build your own like me ( which will cost you more and probably be wont as good initially!!)
