Default What do you lot think the top 5 drivers cars are in various catagories !?!?

I am interested to know what people think the top 5 drivers cars are. I can name a few FR configured cars and certainly a couple of FF configured cars, but all 5 in the front and rear wheel drive catagory and front / mid / rear engined. I can appriciate rear engined cars are a little thin on the ground........The ultimate drivers car list can be any era and any price:

Surely a 911 turbo is better than a Skyline. But I think both are just too damn heavy.

I think the 968 is a good car, but ONLY if it has the M030 suspension option on it.

I disagree, the 911 is fundementally flawed, it has the engnie behind the rear axle!

Yes they have dne wonders to improve it but they are still fighting against physics.

Just think how good it could be with a blank canvas startign from scratch with the engine mid mounted for ideal weight distribution.

That would give the 4wd category to some kind of lamborghini.

All they need now is porsche's ability to set up a chassis and the 4wd 911 not even figure.

A shame really, cos otherwise the design would have been good enough to last 60 years or so...

Some good choices there but surely the FF would be an early Mini Cooper? A real one Not a BMW one.

PMSL.

Can I have one of those flawed rear engined cars things please. Yes, you know the ones, the ones that have been winning races (inc rally) for over 40 years.

I think I'll base my list on cars either I or a member of the family has owned. Basing it on anything else is purely conjecture.

FF - Saxo VTS - Pin-sharp handling and good engine
FR - Capri 3.0S - Grin factor a go-go
MR - Mk2 MR2 - Lovely drive if a little on the lardy side for true performance
4WD - Toyota Celica GT4 - Very underrated car ~ lost in the mists of 4wd rally-reps.
RR - Ermmmmm the only RR I've driven is a VW camper

FF - Saxo VTR. Not spent lots of time in a VTS but i can vouch for the VTR.
FR - Despite me owning an E30 M3 - it didn't handle as well as the Saxo. So i will have to guess that the M3 CSL is the best FR according to the movies and track days i have seen......
MR - I have been in the Mk2 MR2 and thought it was an accident waiting to happen. They seemed very unpredictable. I have also spent some time in a mk1 Clio V6 which felt untrustworthy again. So based on magazine articles and trackdays i assume the Honda NSX Type R is the billy ***** [new shape]
4WD - Skyline, without any doubt - they are supurb to watch and make mincemeat of the Evo and Scooby lot.......
RR - The GT series of the 996 are very special. The GT3 and later RS model seem to clinch what can only be defined as perfection. Watching thr GT championship, you can see the flaws in the 911's but they are pretty awesome !!!

Erm. No. I am as normal as usual. But i stand by my comments.

I owned both cars in the past - that is my judgement of the cars in comparison. I even had both cars at the same time for a couple of months !

FR - New-shape M5
Not a dig here , a great car no doubt the M5 is, but a better drivers car than a 7?

I get the impression people are putting their favourite cars in each category rather than puttin what the are the best 'drivers' cars which the thread is all about

What is the criteria for this? Good track cars? Or just good cars to drive on the road?

You make it personal Davyboy. If you prefer to drive a hardcore track day road car - put it down as your choice drivers car - but if you prefer the likes of comfort / convinience, build quality - choose a boxter - lol.........
