306 GTI 6 or Clio 182 (cup pack)
Which would you go for and why ?
Views on :- Best to drive, residuals, best image (least chavy !), Cost of ownership etc.
Can afford either but can't decide (182 would be 1 year old so £9-10K, 306 prob 5 years or older but hopefully a low legged minter at about £5.5k tops)
Cheers folks.......

I've owned a Clio 172 Cup as well as a 306 GTi-6 & 306 Rallye, all 3 great cars.
Handling & driving wise, the 306's are just superb, the Clio is good, but the Pug is better and the steering feel/feedback is really good. On a tight twisty road the smaller/lighter/nimble Clio has the edge, but on fast sweeping bends and/or anything other than smooth tarmac the 306 is better. Comfier ride in the Pug too.
Residals wise, the 306 has already lost most of it's money, the Clio will lose a lot more. You can also buy a good 306 for a hell of a lot less.
Image wise, the 306 has a more mature image IMO
Cost of ownership, my Clio was the least reliable of the 3 cars, but had warranty so free to get fixed. The Clio was more expensive to insure, tyres cost more & it destroys fronts, but is better on juice.
Now the Clio is quicker, it's always going to be with more power in a smaller/lighter car, but the 306 is far from slow and the paper figures don't do it justice, on the road there aint much between them, although the Clio "feels" quicker.
My money would be on the cheaper 306, which is what I currently have!

I would go for the first GTI-6 rather than a 'late minter'. I love the first boxy front end and in diablo red -mmmm my favorite.
There looks to be a nice P reg pre face lift on autotrader. 50k £2500.
Worth a sniff i say !

I've had a Rallye, then got a Clio 172 Cup, then a CTR and now have a GTi-6, there's minimal difference and the Rallye is very basic, not even got an alarm, so the GTi-6 is the better choice.

I paid a similar amount for mine but it needed a few jobs to make it right, so buying a dirt cheap one might be false economy as it will no doubt need money spending on it.
Great car though.

Good choice Rich, mine was a Phase 1 - had more playful handling
I had my bumpers colour coded though - looked much better and also had the phase to rear lights and badges! Still miss that car, with just adjusted torsions and front springs it could handle pretty close to how well my scoob did

Done a few changes since those pics, but not planning anything major.
