xsara vts v 306 gti-6
Hi all, i am currently borrowing my mates xsara vts, i think it quite a decent car, goes well, handles well and stops well but i dont think it looks all that to be honest...Was wondering how the 306 gti-6 differs in performance by having an extra cog ... is it a better car to drive too? Booming engine shame about the build quality!
thanks

The GTi-6 actually weighs slightly less and the ratio's of the 6 speed box help get the most out of the engine, so the 306 is a bit quicker. More noticeeable in the higher gears, there is very little drop in revs as you go up a cog in the 306 the ratio's keep the engine on the boil.
The Pug also handles a bit better, Peugeot are the only car manufacturer who make their own shocks and pride themselves on handling, the Citroen aint got the same suspension setup.
The 306 looks a million times better, let's face it the Xsara is no beauty.
However, like the 106 is the the Saxo, the 306 and the Xsara are essentially the same car under the skin, a few subtle differences, but lots of shared parts. The 306 holds it's money better though, so the Xsara is a performance bargain.

Xsara VTS is a bit ugly but if you are into bodykits somebody makes a WRC style one (possible CITuning??) that turns the look into a rally-slag monster. Looks 8)
Dont know much else about them though to be honest!

EVO mentioned the Xsara VTS has a propensity for "oversteer in all forms, often at the most inappropriate of times". Sounds like a recipe for stripping it out and tearing around racetracks but not the safest option for day-to-day transport.
The Citroen should be ££££s cheaper than the Pug but that's because it's not a particularly good car.

They are cheap as chips really, my mates selling his for £3700 FSH on 51 plate, I think they handle very well too! Seriously ive have had more fun this week using the VTS than recent times in my Nissan 200!
They do look boring though and no other road user gives them rispect!... until u tear past them! :-)
