Default VW coupe?

I saw a VW coupe today that I've never seen before.

It was, at a guess, late 60's or early 70's, it definately NOT a Karmann Ghia. It looked a bit like a Karmann Ghia crossed with an early Corvette kind of shape to it and had small, round tail lights.

Anyone know what it is and will a Scooby engine fit in one?

Opps, never mind, after half an hour of searching found pics and apparently it IS a Karmann Ghia, but a Type 3 not the better known Type 1. The pics don't look as nice as the one I saw on the road today and makes my description above laughable

ay it is indeed a ghia mate, it is known in the trade as a "razor edge" heres my ghia..... been out posing with my son, he thinks it a right laugh as its been lowered its like a bouncey castle on wheels. why havent vw rekindled the ghia, there is a gap in their line up for a decent coupe, disregarding the VAG's TT.
