Default Alfa 147 2.0TS or Golf GT Tdi

Right. I'm going nice and sensible. Going for one of these cars. been out in both, and really like both of them equally. What are people's thoughts towards them? Any first hand experience would help, rather than going on reps/myths. Cheers.

Golf every time. Better built, better MPG, better reliability, better residuals, lower serving costs etc.

Take the Alfa and you'll wish you'd taken the Golf when you trade it in.

That's exactly my feeling towards it. I mean, Golf's a more sensible option, but Alfa is so much nicer, and is defo more desirable car, just because it's rarer! Very hard choice... I think if I see a right deal on either, I will go for it

It seems to me from what I've heard and read that owning an Alfa is like an ideology, its great in theory but then your dream gets shat on from a great height when you actually venture into the ownership business.

Golf everytime I'm afraid........

I admire people who plump 4 the Alfa though

We had a salesman who had an alfa, right tw@t but i digress. His alfa, from new, was so ****ed it ended up on 3 new engines and and ended up cutting out whenever he took a left hand bend, oh and he ended up braking down on some HUGE, BUSY roundabout and causing a huge traffic jam. Personally Id almost rather have a corsa diesal than the alfa, as in my eyes they are a fools car (fools and their money ...)

Thumbs up

Never had any real problems with my 147. I bet those people who've gone through several engines didn't bother topping up the oil when the warning light came on. I had to top mine up every 1000 miles. The only thing I didn't like were the quirks like the indicators would self-cancel too early or too late, the sun visor was either up or down but nothing in between and the clutch bite was rather sudden. This was an early model so these things might have been fixed by now. Look for trim type (eg Lusso) at the bottom of the front wing to find the newer revised model.

You'll notice that the people slagging off Alfas don't mention which model they had. I would say stay away from any older Alfas before the 147 came out. I would agree with the low residuals compared to a Golf though.

Same here.

Alfa156 Selespeed Veloce.

Best car I have ever had when everything was spot on.

The other 95% of the time it drove me mad.

Lost £10k in 20 months.

Get the Golf.

Cheers
