I did a thread previously, everyone doing their best to say their hot hatch is better than the Pug - wrong. They were all fundamentally flawed, in one way or another.....unlike the 306 which is just spot on!! The 106, as above but a smaller version!!

Err its completely standard, unabused example, owned by my colleague at work. He's just bought another car and hasn't got round to advertising the Peugeot yet. Can't remember the name of it, but it's that lovely mid-blue metallic colour, on the standard 5 spoke 16-inch wheels. I'll ask the chap for more details at lunch, but the car lives in and around Harrow.

Spoke to the chap and he does want to sell it, he just hasn't got around to advertising it. Its a 2 owner car (current since 20k miles), FPSH, yes they are 15-inch alloys, matching Michelins on each axle, 87k miles, in Blue, A/C ilo Sunroof, the car is completely standard.
I had a brief look at it, and cause its raining I couldn't see much, but he did point out the only marks on the car, which were a scuff to the O/S rear wing and bumper, a couple of shopping dings on the O/S and a mark on the rear bumper. Looks to be about a £250 job to make it like new. Apart from that there is nothing, and the car has all its original panels, never had a accident, the alloys are in great condition too.
The car lives in Bushey, Herts and can probably be viewed there or during work in Harrow. Its a really lovely bright car. If you want a price pm me.

I'm not arguing that they're great handling cars - they are and mags gave the acclaim they needed but I felt that they didn't really get the sales they warranted or public awareness.
I'd like to see one up against something like a Clio 182 which EVO rate as the current daddy as they have very similar power and performance figures...

If you put a crap interior into a '6, removed the aircon and replaced the badges with stickers then the '6 would be identical - oh, that's already been done - it's called the Rallye!!

Funny how the mags always rate the Rallye over the GTi, I know it's only a weight difference but it seems to make a difference.
If your raving about your stripped out GTi being the dogs dangleys, how can you disagree that the Rallye is a better standard car than the GTi

Mags also rated the clio williams as being the best hot hatch ever. I think that replaced the 205GTi. Fronm then on it went a bit dull till the Clio 182 ....No mention of the 306GTi from memory .......
At the end of the day its all french clutter though.

It's the all the little things that add up to spoil my GTi-6.
Auto wipers that are $hite, and have been on every other Peugeot I've been in.
When you wash the windscreen or it's raining and you have the drivers window slightly open water runs straight inside the car into the electric window / mirror switches.
Car is really uneconomical when driven hard, and not that great when driven more gently either.
6 speed box is a PITA. Once the novelty of it has worn off it's just plain hard work driving it.
Does not feel that quick for a 167bhp car to me, perhaps I've just got used to it ?
General $hite build quality. No wonder French cars dont last. Cant remember the last time I saw a decent 405 Mi16 / Citroen BX 16v / AX GT etc. etc.

I have my 306GTI-6 for 8months now and I can not fault the car in anyway .I love it . I use it as a 2nd car and what fun I have in it. one of the best PUG's I ever had.

My mates brother has a 182 and my mate & I both have GTi-6's, the Clio is not really any quicker on the road and the 306's are in fact better at higher speeds due to the gearing.

I had a J plate 205GTI 1.9 for 3 yrs then upgraded to a late R plate 306GTi6.
The 306 was more comfortable but lack power low down, eventually the power would come in but to late. I must admit I missed my 205 when I had the 306 and pex it for a Scoob after 1yr of ownership. Never looked back now I have the scoob with the 205 taking 2nd place in my list of fave owned cars.

IMHO for B-roads a Williams is slightly more fun, but for motorways, etc the 6 is a nicer place to be (and has significantly better build quality - only French car I've been in that feels like it will last). From a magazine point of view a Williams would be the best hot hatch made, but as an ownership proposition the pug has it's nose in front.
The 6-speed box is too closely stacked, an extra 3mph/thousand in 6th would make all the difference, when in potter mode I end up going 1st-3rd-6th, and don't have to change down until speed drops below 30mph. The only really annoying problem with the car is that radio reception is absolutely terrible.
