Must admit the vid does look suspect, but throw enough money at a car and you get results...

Hello?!? The whole video has been sped up but all that changes is the pace at which the footage runs. In relative terms the golf still goes past those cars with that ease and still closes this distance with that ease. Whether a flat out golf makes up 100m on a flat out Ferrari in 3s or 20s makes no difference, it still reeled it in

Yes, after watching it again I must agree it does look obvious now that it has been sped up. Saying that, Saxo Boy has a vaild point. Whether it's been sped up or whatever, the Golf still sails past some very fast and exotic machinery.

It has been sped up, but agree with Saxo Boy the result is the same.
Why do some people think that if a car doesnt have 4WD or SUBARU on the back it has no chance? My 205 will waste std Impreza's.

I never said that! Just committed first film clip had been speeded up.

Yeah defo sped up. You can hear the revs are so much higher when showing the track than when the cam is on the driver (where the vid is not sped up). Don`t know why they did it as it is obviously very very fast.

I actually like it sped up - it makes the video a little more interesting. The problem with track footage is that unless the car is well over 1000bhp (or is an F1 car) it just can't 'look fast' from a camera unless the track is very narrow and twisty. Speeding it up makes it look a little more interesting and fun and is in keeping with the music. That said, I'm glad they filmed some normal speed footage too

Clearly has some serious straight line poke, big brakes, modded suspension and looks like slick tyres. No mildly tweaked road-going scoob or even 911 is going to beat that sort of thing round a track. I don't mean that as a put down of the golf, just a bit of a reality check - get something that is truly sorted for track use, it'll slay "quick" road cars easily. Check out any well sorted/well driven Caterham etc let alone a radical etc against exotica round a track too . . . .
Admittedly, some of the exotic traffic it was quite easily wasting appeared to be standard track-day type drivers who either weren't that good or weren't trying that hard, which also helps the Golf (which appeared well driven) to look quicker. Not saying it wouldn't beat the Porsche's etc if they were driven better, just that it would be a lot closer thing.

Did you see the aerodynaic mods and the fancy race gear selector ?
That is a serious piece of kit and probably cost as much of some of those exotics it was beating, if all you want to do is go fast, its not that difficult but I bet its no good as a road car, thats where the supercar development wins, i.e a 911 GT3 you can drive everyday.

I have a 205 and 2morrow, a scoob. In the dry a tuned Pug could out do a Scoob, but in the wet, it would be a frightening proposition to keep up with a well drvien scooby. If my Pug is anything to go by, any sudden movements mid corner will end in oversteer. Fun if you can control it, but scary all the same! I take it you are running an mi16 and/or carbs? Or is it a TT? I love Pugs to bits, but surely, a standard scoob would be faster in uk driving conditions on a day to day basis?

Rebuilt Mi16, Emerald ECU, GSXR throttle bodies, Piper cams, circa 200bhp, 850kg
Just fitting the bodies at the moment then we're ready to go - just hope it all works as before I started I didnt know a great deal about rebuilding cars
twybrow - before mine blew up I used to regularly take it on the Northern Scooby meets and rarely had problems keeping up, even on our Xmas meet in the snow/rain/ice round the Yorkshire Dales!! The heavier Mi engine seems to improve grip a lot.
