Maybe try something that challenges you on track, instad of using 4WD to do the work for you, you may find that at lower speed you enjoy yourself a lot more.
Ive watched a few Impreza's on track, and they go round the corner with the wheels screeching slightly, while the driver simply turns the wheel and lets the car handle the rest, saw that at Nurburgring too, but although they are quick, you may as well stay at home and play your playstation.
Compared to a car with RWD and no aides to do the work for you, the Impreza is capable but boring, and doesnt present much of a learning experience for the driver, but it depends if you want to feel like a great driver on a track, or actually be one.

Id look for an early RA, theyre cheap as chips, especially after number three has destroyed the crank..... Find a low mileage late New Age engine, use either the original electronics or an A'Pexi PowerFC and you're away. The sweetest handling Impreza with the least plasticine-like engine...

I used to own an EK9 JDM CTR, revved safely to 9100, think it was 212bhp n/a out my little 1.6, used to be my track day monster, only issue is FWD is no RWD.
Having tasted RWD for 2.5 years thats what I would stick too, Caterfield type cars are cheap to insure, and cheap to run on track, whilst huge grin factor, otherwise an Elise, which you can now pick up for 9K+

To get that 210bhp+ I'd imagine you'd need a 1.8 stroker kit or ITB's or wilder cams along with the usual breathing mods/re-map which would cost ££££'s. Honda's quoted figures are usually optimistic to say the least, most standard UK Integra Type R's RR at 170-175bhp even though it's quoted at 187bhp.
Mk2 Escort  pity they cost so much though

The b18c is the better of the 2 engines, better off starting with one iMHO
