Vauxhall Omega
A friend is considering buying one of these as a stop-gap car while he decides what 'proper-car' to buy in the new year sometime.
He's been lookin on eBay, etc and has found a few ex-Police MV6's along with some Elite and CDX Estates that he likes the look of, either with the 2.5/3.0 petrol engines. Unfortunately it seems that the ones with the BMW 2.5 TDi engines are like rocking horse poo to find.
Back in the day, my dad had a MY96 2.5 CDX Estate and it was still going very strong when he traded it in at 180,000+ miles... Is the 3.0 any less reliable than the 2.5 unit?? Are there any specific areas that he should pay close attention to when looking at one??
What power do the 2.5 and 3.0 make, also any ideas of the difference in economy between the two units??
Are there any good owners clubs or information forums about these cars??
Cheers,
Grant

From memory I think the V6 Omega suffered from Cam Belt failure and the Police revised the service shedule to 40k miles.
So if he gets one make sure it's had it's cam belts done in the 40k miles.

You want something with lowish mileage and low spec (I mean less things to go wrong rather), not to mention the pride of ownership that you ge tby telling everyone that it was once owned by me!

May as well jump on the band wagon.
i've got one of the rare BMW engined 2.5TDi for sale. 135,000 miles. Just in for MOT & new tax - its also the Elite version with all the toys and they still work. Full service history too !!! Not pristine but the price would be adjusted accordingly
