Default Driving a car without MOT to garage

I know its legal to drive a car to a MOT garage as long as its pre booked, but has anyone been pulled over and had coppers query it, also it wont have any tax either. I'll be driving from Dover to the North west!

Cheers

It's OK without tax too, as you need the MOT to get tax. However I think you're pushing your luck going that distance, if you are unfortunate enough to get pulled (or caught on one of those ANPR things) I think you'll struggle with the "going for an MOT" line.

I think the idea is that you travel reasonable distance - OK you have to define reasonable but driving hundreds of miles past countless MOT-certified garages probably stretches the boundaries of reasonable somewhat

Its a common ruse and whilst itll **** off any Police officer who stops you, the law doesnt restrict the distance travelled. Ive done the odd Tilbury or Southampton to Sheffield myself.....

Have a look at the rules around final journey destination when importing a car. (Ie no reg, no MOT and no tax but insured on the chassis number) as I'm sure this is allowed but only to go from port to place of storage directly.

I would have thought that if it has a valid French MOT equivalent you'd be OK as they are a fellow EU country?

Got an email back off DVLA, they say i can drive to garage but dont say if its ok to drice a couple of hundred miles, French MOT doesnt cover unless its French registered, although the French werent bothered with it being on UK plates, cheaper insurance, cheaper petrol / Diesel, no road tax and a 2 year MOT, im dreading paying loads to drive in the UK again
Should be ok

It will be; as Ive said, there arent any restrictions on the distance that you can travel.
