My only reservation is all that power and torque through the front wheels!?!?! My guess is that its going to need very careful handling through the corners and off the mark and that if its raining, its probably best to leave it in the garage!
Its gonna surprise a lot of peeps in a straight line though!
Best wishes to him with it!

Only downsides were the terrible grabby brakes and agressive clutch...but then it was a hire car!

The power to the front was my concern. They say the Astra VXR (with ONLY 240bhp) is a real hand full. The torque steer must be a real pain.
I thought the headers could have been better made. I would have thought a one piece section was possible rather than welding so many pieces together. It would also improve the gas flow.
If I ever meet the guy on the road "I'll beat him in the twisties" LOL

I think it is a great achievement - however the Focus RS has the LSD, brakes, seats, wheels and already 200hp turbo. Would that not have been a better start - or am i missing a point somewhere !?!?

The same can be said on alot of cars...
The focus is a great achievement , nicely done and a proper street sleaper.

I'm no expert (obviously power engineering are), but I see no mention of an uprated clutch or gearbox. Won't they struggle to cope with such a dramatic power increase?
I may have missed something, so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Obviously a lot of money has been spent and I don't want to sound negative, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

Sorry just read the £7800, ouch that alot of dosh but that bhp doesn't come cheap I guess!!
Personally myself I'd probably opt to buy a turbo charged car with around 220 and take it to that kinda bhp abit cheaper. But all credit to your m8 cos he's got a one off and I bet it surprises the hell out of drivers with allegedly more potent exotica

The getrag 6 speed box in the ST is a very strong unit, and the clutch is probably good for 350-400 ft/lbs, we'll find out for sure when he gets it down to Pod and sees if he can match the big boys with their focus RS'

However the RS is a more expensive option to start with and the cost to tune the RS to almost 300bhp is ££££thousands on top.

BUT.... people will be getting a shock now eh! Also, I like the look of the ST170 more, classier and more understated than an RS....ironic coming from a Scooby owner I know!

Hi guys, its my car in the thread. Thanks for comments, most seem fair and balanced :-)
I'm over the moon with the car, it goes so well its untrue. The chassis deals with the power really well, which was a nice suprise! Theres almost zero torque steer, with 284lbs/ft theres enough of it, but its just seems to cope really well.
I'v been down a few country lanes to see how the hanldling copes. I was really happy with the way it went, it can spin if you really want it to, but thats true of most turbo cars I think.
Who ever it was that said the ST was classier and sleeker on here......thats why I bought the car, I test drove the RS bit it wasnt for me to be honest, but horses for courses I guess :-)
I'm heading to the pod on the 23rd to see what she'll do, I'm hoping for low 14's high 13's. which I reckon it will do. Launching will be tricky, but looking at getting a plate diff soon to get more grip off the line.
Thanks again for comments, never been on here before but you all seem a real decent bunch, cheers!
Simon :-)

My post was concerning the integrity of the standard clutch/gearbox setup. I thought they would turned into semolina by such a high increase in power. It appears that they will stand up to it though according to one of the ffoc members.
So if your claims of very little torque steer are true, you have a very nicely sorted car there matey
Enjoy!

Do be careful in the rain- that's not intended as 4wd snobbery, it's just I drove a jabba chipped Leon in the wet and it was scary!! It is difficult to put that much power through the front wheels, but if any FWD car that I've been in can pull it off it'd be the Focus.
Have fun with it!

Mine was running 292bhp with the standard gearbox (and still is now I've settled at 226bhp 226 lbs/ft torque) but I've uprated the clutch to an AP Racing 4 puck paddle clutch
LOL Bloody FFOCers, you get everywhere!!!!

Tyres will go a long way to negating any unruly behaviour in the wet, although they can only do so much! :-)Goodyear Eagle F1s are very highly regarded on here, particularly in the wet, so may be worth looking into.
Also, if you should fry your clutch I can highly recommend the Exedy organic clutch. Very easy to use (unlike most paddle clutches) and tough- some scoobies with 400ft lbs torque have them fitted with no problems.
Let us know how you get on!
