Cool Jaguar S-Type R

Well the very nice people at Jaguar have lent me an S-Type R for the weekend (very nice people.)

It turned up yesterday, British racing green, large alloys, massive brakes it does look very nice, black and grey leather seats etc etc.
More importantly it has a 4.2 ltr supercharged V8 producing just over 400 bhp.

First impressions
Very very comfortable,
Very quick for a large car, and it does feel very large for some reason !!.
Sounds fantastic with the V8 and the supercharger whine
Drinks fuel at an enormous rate, thank god it uses normal unleaded.
Filled it up last night and gave me a range of 270 miles.

Going over to the England game tomorrow so should be able to give it a spirited run over the woodhead.
Will give an update on Monday

They are not slow... not very far off M5 (outgoing ver) pace. I think the jag offers more comfort though as its auto and a bit softer.

Agreed it is a very quick car (5.3 0-60) it’s the power availability, with full torque available from 1500 rpm hasn’t half got some grunt !

I was behind one of these in my STi a few months ago - I had a real job keeping up with him.. (and it was on the infamous twisties) :O

Didn't realise they were so quick until I tried it on with one

Talking

I work at Jaguar Castle Bromwich in the design offices above where the S Type is built and I really love the type R they sound fantastic when they drive past the window, cant understand why they don't sell !!

Maybe the new version that isn't as ugly will sell much better !!

Does sound fantastic, need to do something with the interior (maybe on the new version!) doesn't really shout £50+k, it is very nice don't get me wrong but it just needs a little something else ....

You can get the same engine in an old XJR, or a 4lt version slightly older still. They shift too... bargain if you like that sort of thing.

I had two 3.0 X-Types, and yes I'd never have another. But that MPG seems bad mate, I'd get them to look at it. I used to get 21ish MPG which I thought was bad. In fact, I know have a 740i with a 4.4 v8 and I get 21.5mpgwhatever I do - kinda highlights how bad the Jag was !

I won't bore you with the serious long running issues I had with mine, but the X-type is a shocker. Shame really.

My boss had the S-Type R and it was a lovely car, 400bhp on tap yet totally civilised and comfortable when not wanting to drive like a hooligan.

Probably not wrong there, I know we have been told Ford aren't going to pump anymore money into Jag. Wouldn't be suprised to see the design centre at Whitley, Coventry get sold off next !!
