Ah yeah, i saw a review of this on tv few months back. Mike Brewer said it was good. Although im sure he said it had lost some of the charm of older mx-5's.

I've only had my 05 Mx5 sport for 3 months and i've already decided it the one of the best cars i've had and pisses all over the 400bhp scoob i had before it. Its not all about going fast
I got a good deal on mine so will wait until i can get a proper look at the mk3 and weigh up my options wether its worth trading in

Yeah good car - w4nk ****-he4d dealers.
Went to have a look 3 weeks ago - exclusive look offered to my sis from TW Whites in Milford as shes been a customer for years with a MK1 and MK2 MX - completely intent to buy one there and then or ASAP.
Dealer went out in my R33 GTR as a PX, loved it, I said I was well up for the buy, he called me back the next day offered 8k on a GTR I paid 16k for 16 month previously and worth 11-12k at least.
I laffed at him, so he said he had a few other people to talk to, and would call me back, maybe even sell it themselves (have sold GTR's before) - and that was a month ago......
Funny - not heard from him since
Oh, and they had mroe RX8's in one place than I've ever seen, can't shift em - one big Mazda c0ckup they are!

Re RX8, mate had one(the more powerful one), it was a cracking drive and package all round BUT it only did around 11-15 MPG - thats why he sold his after 3 months!
With fuel prices so high i am not suprised there are a lot about, i excpect to see a lot more cheap thirsty cars on the market soon.
Have a good 'un
Paul.

I'll wait ti ll a few of the more respected journo's have commented on the UK spec car, although it's gonna need to be good to tempt to spend the extra over the one she's really happy with now

Yep - I do like the RX8 alot, and with a turbo it would be even better. But the rate it drinks fuel and oil must make it take a big hit like your mate did with his..........
Shame really, I quite like Mazda and their styling etc, but with dealers and cars like that

Well, took out a Toyota MR2 today (as the new Mazda MX5 is now the same price) and ..... errrrrrm, it was cack!! Which really surprised me!!
The MX5 in my garage is probably the best car I have ever owned, the Calibra came very close, but the MX5 wins for pure driving pleasure.
The Scooby? well its a car I have never loved - granted it does things that defy physics and I respect it hugely ....... but love it?? Nah ...... which is a shame. It's as reliable as they come and gives a good buzz.
Speed is not what the MX5 is about, it's about getting in a time-warp back to the 60's but with 90's Japanese reliability ................ and it is a FANTASTIC experience.
The Scooby goes before the Mazda ..... need I say more?
Pete

Well I agree completely with Pete.
I had an original mx5 for over 12 years, and now have an STI PPP (for 3ish years)
If I didn't have 2 kids, the Subaru would be gone in a flash in favour of the better drivers car

Anyone know if the new MX5 is slightly bigger inside?
Mrs wants a sports car, but I dont fit in the old MX5, or in the S2000 so looking for other options now.

Yes it is - not by much though. It is slightly wider and longer than the outgoing model. Front track is 3" wider, rear 2". Cabin is bigger - there is another 1" or so in seat movement and about a 1.5" increase in hip room. It also has slightly increased headroom and bigger boot.
I saw one at my Mazda dealer last week - it is a very nice looking car. More agressive than the old model. With a decent engine, it should be great to drive. I'd love to see them put a rotary engine in one, but they won't

I've read the reviews and I'm sure they are great little cars, but I like a bit more power thanks. And I'm sure that when you mention lack of power, owners will say 'it's not how big it is, it's how you use it', but that's what all the small-******* say
I'm sure it'll be a lovely car.

Those who don't drive one because they think of their image more than the driving experience are missing out on a whole bunch of lifes experiences!!
Gold Wheels do nothing for an experience, but they say loads about image (thats negative)

Me too Pete is right on this one. The MX-5 is one of the sweetest handling cars you will ever drive - far superior to a Scoob. It is not all about power and huge engines. Despite their lack of power, they will easily keep up with much more powerful cars - it rewards good drivers - simple as that. I don't expect that the new one will be much different in that respect.
