What do you reckon??
New MX5 = £17400
So?? What would you reckon I should do?
Fun Car used for 2000miles per year - in the sun only - SORNd in winter.
1. New MX5
2. 2 year old Honda S2000
3. Toyota MR2, new
4. Jag XK8 convertible, about 5 years old
5. Porsche Boxter about 4 years old
6. Merc. SLK, about 5 years old
7. None of the above, your suggestion??
I favour the smaller cars as they need to fit in the garage with everything else ...........................
What do you reckon then??
The Honda is appealing except for the Group 20 Insurance (bearing in mind that you can only apply FNCD to one car! )

Porsche or Honda. As for the NCD - try HIC (Herts) (I think) - they mirrored my NCD from my Scooby on to my 2nd car, which meant the premium was a third of what most mainstream brokers were asking for.
You could always get a Lotus Elise with the added bonus that some of those have gold wheels, and we all know how much you enjoy having those on your car!

Pete, you can buy my '04 MR2
Only two mods ever done to it, TTE lowering springs and the stereo
Will be looking to move onto something else before spring next year. Good cars, but I fancy something a little loony

Not inspiring at all .... I want to 'Drive' my fun car - not just twiddle with the steering wheel! It was too quiet, too refined, too much an everyday car.
I am going to take the Demo S2000 out, when I can get a back-to-back test drive with the new MX5 ........... the Honda 'should' be better as it costs £7500 more new.
Porsche, what will £17500 get me??

LOL nope, mine are still in and it runs absolutely fine Nobody can say for definite that they are the actual cause. There is another rumour about resonance in the manifold around 4000rpm that causes them to break up, rumours about bore wear and ovalled chambers, but noone really knows and it doesn't happen to all of them.
I guess if you drive it and look after it properly it'll be OK. Maybe there's a mods to precat failure ratio
I worried about it before I bought mine...then bought one anyway
What are you looking for in your summer runaround? Do you want performance, luxury, practicality, feel & feedback???

Surely you can afford a double garage Pete?
We're looking at similar cars at the moment, had a look a TT Roadster which I liked cos of the interior room, but the mrs doesnt like their image
Tried MX5 and S2000 but would need a smaller steering wheel for me to drive them.

I nearly bought a Black Mercedes SL320 last year on a P-plate with 40k miles for £15k, had full leather, full mercedes service history, and overall a really good looking car, Think brand new they were £80k. There's a 99 S-reg one on Auto Trader at he moment with 30k miles for £17k.

Its a no brainer mate, check out this Z4 below. I really regret ever getting rid of mine, for that money I would be tempted back with the spec, still under warranty too.
