What makes a 911 a 'Carrera' ?
Had a drive of my mates 996 Carrerra soft top on Sunday, it was luuuuurvely
Makes me want to get one even more
I can work out most of the model names, but not Carrera. Can anyone help?

The 'Carrera Panamericana', which they won in 1952, 1953 and 1954. The first car to carry the name was the 356 Carrera (1500cc quad cam, roller bearing crank engine seen in the 550 Spyder) introduced in 1955.

Turbo's only good in straight lines.......hardly.
Pretty much the fastest point to point cars on the planet.
My current TT makes my old tuned STi Impreza feel very pedestrian.

I managed 183mph with red bull and ***, then some nutter in a corsa pulled out and I NEARLY spilled my drink but managed to avoid it due to good brakes

Had only just changed into 6th still had plenty left, but the corsa decided to test my brembo's!!
Think the official top speed is 195mph, but I've been on a diet lately so may get more out of her yet

No, no, no. You've all got it wrong. Carrerra is not a referrence to a race, it pertains to the early cars tail happy characteristics together with the distain they attracted in the 80's when every Yuppie had one and they were a symbol of capitalism out of control etc... Thus:

had 193mph out of my tuned gt3 on gps , i reckon a bit of a hill and maybe 200? whoever says porsches dont go round corners needs to go out in one, even my old 993 c2 was amazing but the gt3 is silly!!! Nevetas is right, in britain you only need 3 gears!!!!

Still to this day i say the fastest car i've ever been in was a 99 spec GT3 with rollcage, buckets etc. was just rediculous in the bends, felt like a race car on the road
