Clio is one of the most fun to drive cars out there. And it's cheap to boot as well!! You can't go wrong if looking for a drivers car. It's light too, something that most manufacturers get sooooo wrong. No pure sportscar needs to weigh much more than a tonne.

I'm just reading the article and a little upset to see the scoob placed so low, the crown is definitely slipping but I don't care, perhaps fewer chiefs will now buy one

I love my old 172, over 5 years old with no rattles and still goes pretty well, could do with being a bit faster though. But it doesn't weigh much and is my first car with air con lol, easily pleased me.

Thank god that we were that far down the list. That gives me another 8 cars that I can cross off the list that I shouldn't race. If I can find an article about somebody whipping a WRX witha standard Reliant Robin, that will complete my list and I'll never have to try and race anybody again.

Depends what you want out of a car really. I like mine to work and I don't own a WRX either so no axe to grind.
Like I put over in general look at the owners website

Notice the 2 main stickies about the myriad problems with these brand new cars?
I'd rather trap the dogs danglies in a door than buy into that sort of trouble.

Clio owners seem to forget one very important factor when their one braincell tells them to buy a clio ......
THEY ARE FRENCH FFS!!!
I wouldn't have one if it was THE fastest car on earth ... and I mean that most sincerely.
Any self respecting Englishman would never steep so low as to put money in the Froggies pockets
Quite frankly, I don't know how they can sleep

"It'll get sorted under warranty, no problem"
I don't relish spending large chunks of my life having faults corrected at some of the worst dealers on the planet. Neither do I fancy a 1.2 courtesy car for weeks at a time. Neither do I fancy faults that I'm told "are features of the car" or that "Renault are yet to find a fix for". Neither do I fancy finding out the car has passenger seat that isn't actually connected to the rest of the car, particularly as it may only come to light in an accident.
It's just not good enough to say these faults will be fixed, they shouldn't be there in the first place as most of them seem to be due to poor workmanship and manufacturing processes. The Clio is an unfunny joke as an ownership prospect which is why it's crossed of my list. In any case if I wanted a proper little trackday car I wouldn't be picking an overhyped supermini anyway.

Great car for the missus............if you hate her and want the kids to suffer in an accident. Read the stuff about the seats not actually being connected to the car properly? Scary to think stuff like that still goes on today. Great little cars- if they'd built them properly.
I don't think anyone in their right minds likes visiting Renault dealers to sort out yet another fault either. It's really basic stuff, if the cars aren't built properly how on earth can it top anyones list?

The C4S would have walked it or atleast came second, as it looks like they all fell in love with the Ford GT.
Me i would have taken the Lambo. In white....
And the Clio for jumping about town.

Unreliability 'can' be a problem (my mates 172 cup seems fine) but the pros must outweigh the cons else no-one would buy clios, 205s, Ferraris, TVRs etc.
Anyway, the Clio is certainly more fun to drive and cheaper to run than, say, a scoob. Maybe not what we all want in a car but the fun factor is undeniable and they're quick round a track. Wouldn't blame anyone for getting one.
Anyway, call this a 'car enthusiasts site'?? Any driving enthusiast would be all for a car like the clio. It's a great fun car for the masses.

Dracoro I'm all for the Clio. I just wouldn't want to own one. The days when poor safety and unreliability were acceptable in a mass market car are gone. Would be a great car to review, run into the ground or even I guess have on a company scheme but actually own one myself with 12-14K of my own money. Not on your nelly!

A couple of random threads about the 'Car of the year' alternate title 'Most unreliable, poorly built car of the year'. They seem like nice people over on the trophy site and I joined in order to do some research into what was going to be my girlfriend's next car. Needless to say a week or 2 of being a member convinced me we don't need that sort of trouble.

http://cliotrophy.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=384 Alarm problems- like your car alarmed? Like locking it? Look for another one then.
It's a damned shame but what is the point in a great car you can't rely on? You'd think they could get a limited edition run of just 500 right considering it's built in their flagship sport facility wouldn't you? Wrong.

I think the journalists are finding it fashionable to say that Subarus and even Evos are a bit long in the tooth, been there, done that type attitude. In group tests they are losing to cars that have less performance in terms of acceleration or ground covering ability. I find it very difficult to imagine what other cars will cover a tricky road (yes the fabled twisties) better than an STI or an Evo in the hands of an average driver. We're not all oversteer masters on the public roads. Rant over, and I don't even have a Subaru any more...
