A Little Play With An STi
I now have a MY04 CTR.
MY04 STi was behind me the other night as we joined motorway I was only able to give it some from about 60mph once we joined to motorway.
Was a short blast but I got an initial run on him and he was only able to start to close the gap pretty slowly. Kinda surprised me a bit, thought he would have been all over my ***
Only mod I have is cat back exhaust!

All his posts are the same....lol
Would love to know where you are from Derek because I was behind a CTR joining the motorway a few nights ago.
Also, how did you know it was an 04 Sti from a rear view mirror, unless of course the plate gave it a way. In which case, wasn't me!!

plus there is no real point most of the time cos it would be an unfair fight. It would be like Prince Nazeem bigging it up to Mike Tyson. Tyson aint gonna hit him.... it would be pointless.
most fun is side by side at the lights revving away and when he (or she) shoots off just poodle away - they really feel stoopid

Just switched from a CTR to an STI. At 60mph the Civic is right in the sweetspot of the power band changing from 2nd to 3rd. It really does shift in those gears and wouldn't be surprised if it's 60-90mph times are as near as makes no difference the same as the STI. Look at the performance figures Autocar got during their road test of the Civic (0-60 6.7 and 0-100 16ish if I recall) and you can see that once it's rolling it really does start to motor. However, find a twisty road with a few bumps or maybe a hint of moisture and the STI will be a long gone. The Civic is a great car with a the best 4 cylinder engine and manaul gearbox in the world but desperately needs a LSD to make the most of them. Oh dear, starting to get all nostalgic now... Time to shut up.

I find it funny reading how you lot are getting all defensive and start implying he wasnt trying etc etc.
Far be it for anyone to express surprise at how well their lower powered FWD car faired on a short sprint when compared to your beloved scoobys (that most of you seem to beleive are the fastest road going machines in the world).
In a straight line past 70mph the (std) Sti is bit faster than the CTR but not by loads and loads!!

Don't worry mate. It's how they cope with the fact that their "rally" cars are not really that much faster than a glorified blue rincer's shopping trolly
It's called denial

Driveing back from food shopping with my wife and 3 kid,s in the car, last week a boy racer wanted too get in the back with the kid,s,
yes he was that close.
Went into 2 lane,s he came past with big smile
on his face, it was a black clio sport,
sorry mate not with the kid,s in car and not worth the fuel.
My scooby would have lost big time and you are king of the road.

No just fed up with everyone in hot hatches saying i wasted a scoob. There slow and crap. If thats the case why does everyone make a song and dance about it. If there that slow then its nothing to bragg about. Is it?

Reminds me of an incident many years ago. I was travelling along on my Honda 750, sticking roughly to the 40mph speed limit. Then all of a sudden, a little yamaha 125 went past. I just ignored him. It was all round the pub that night that I got beaten in a race I didn't even know I was in.

I really have little time for the people that troll all over thread like this. If you don't like vs threads don't read them.
Unless the STI had well over 400bhp then it was trying and here is why:
Facts we know - the CTR was being driven flat-out AND the sti was closing in slowly.
Against an STI that isn't trying a CTR will pull away comfortably. To only just 'match' a CTR even a PPPd STI would have to utilise 90% of its available power - this is hard to do and pointless. To be pulling a CTR in albeit slowly would be conducive to an STI 'trying' and therefore it was as good as flat out. Even in a PPP'd STI to moderate the throttle on a turbo-charged car to give the 90-95% performance required to slowly crawl in on it would be difficult and seemingly pointless. I accept that it may have been a monster 400bhp STI that was being driven in short sustained 2/3rd throttle 'blasts' to 'keep with traffic' but any other STI was flat out. You always know when someone is trying - maybe the other driver was changing a little earlier through choice or bad driving but his foot was burried based on the facts we know.
