Well I am still waiting for an independant magazine to test the Veyron. Its fine Buggati saying it will do 2.5secs to 60, I beg to differ until its actually been tested by a few! There are much much lighter, 1000bhp Drag spec road legal Slylines struggling to get that time, what makes a near 2 ton car make it?
Taking the car to weigh 1888kg, and run upto 1050kg (ref read evo mag, most are conservative at 987bhp) then my rough calculations are:
Power at Flywheel (BHP) : 1050
Weight without Driver (KG) : 1888
Power to Weight Ratio (BHP Per Ton) : 565.07
0 - 60 (Secs) : 3.24
0 - 100 (Secs) : 5.14
60 - 100 (Secs) : 1.90
Quarter Mile (Secs) : 10.33
Terminal Speed (MPH) : 148.43
Drag Strip Quarter Mile (Secs) : 9.93
Drag Strip Terminal Speed (MPH) : 153.76
As I said, I still don't think a nearly 2 ton car will hit 60 in 2.5secs, closer to 3....
So as the 1/4mile goes, about 10.3 in road tarmac tests, maybe down 9.9 at 154mph on a proper grippy drag strip. Just my calculations at...

Also the reported turbo lag will impact the quarter time.
As a comparison the Macca F1 and the Enzo have both quartered at 11.2s and to date are the fastest 'production' quarters I am aware of - no doubt there are some production specials that have been faster.
The Macca F1 has a very close power to weight ratio at 550bhp per tonne - even closer if you assume the Veyron is running closer to it's spec than the 1050 quote above.
The Ray Hall Calculator puts a 10.33s quarter and a laden weight of 2000kgs as 788bhp PAW.

Hasnt it got a 7 speed DSG type gearbox. Now thats probably going to save a second over a 1/4 is it not.
Not to mention that with 4wd and a 7 speed box the gearing will be pretty low in first, hence the good 0-60 time.
I would be surprised if the performance figures suggested by Bugatti(VW) are that far off the mark.

Reason
Theres a good reason no mag has done a proper test is because it will not get the time bugatti claim, I would of thought it will get around the 10.7 quarters at around 132 mph, big heavy car

It doesnt work like that with a car like the veyron. It was built with 3 things in mind. To be the fastes car in the world by a big margin, to be comfortable and to be reliable.
To tell you guys just how fast the veyron is they brought along a Saleen S7 TT which produces 1000hp and made it race the veyron. The veyron showed it up. They even let potential customers jump in the saleen so they could feel the difference in the veyrons speed and the saleens.
The veyron has the widest tires ever made for a production car.The tires are of the most advanced in the world. The veyron has as much torque as a 1000hp skyline at its optimum torque rating at 2000rpm and it rises all the time till it hits 6000rpm.
Nothing can compare with the veyron. For once the figures done tell the whole story. Infact the veyron produces 2000hp but 1000 of that gets eaten by the cooling system. Did you guys really think the most expensive car in the world would have trouble competing with skylines...

So it has a 1000hp power take off for for the cooling pump
That would be bigger than the engine, I think you've got your story wrong

Simon.
Dont they do 0-100 in 5 or just under.
Still no match for a top fuel dragster, but then it would be funny seeing one of them going round silverstone....

I remember reading a couple of years back in Autocar that a Jaguar F1 car did 0-100mph and back to 0 again in under 7 seconds!! And they corner at over 4G - a really good road car would barely generate 1.5G!
I can't find the results with the F1 car in it but this link features an Impreza (WR1) - it beats an Evo 8 FQ330 by 1 second.

I know it's straying slightly off topic, but I'd like to see the Veyron go down the quarter alongside this Fuel altered from the 60's (yes, that's right the 1960's) it's been restored and the guy driving it must have some bottle.
Turn your volume right up and savour the sound of nitromethane (oh.. and scare the bejaysus out of the rest of your house!)

Enjoy,

The powewr of the veyron is emant to actaully fluctuate depending on surronding conditions but it hs 1001 hp minium at all times. Or 987hp when using lower quality american fuel.
