ST185 - this is the older model with the flip up headlights that ran til K reg iirc. These have 201bhp or 205bhp for the Carlos Sainz edition i think.
the later shape is what my old man had, that the twin round headlight version, they are 240bhp and 255bhp for the import as stated. nice cars with 'apparently' very good handling and grip, but very heavy so not really all that quick. I find them a nice drive and they are reliable.

Great cars, solid. Not that fast in comparison to an STi but the basic handling (Not grip) was better. I had an ST185 at the same time as my 03 STi. It was much slower but I loved the handling, so much easier to drift.
Only sold it as three cars and two houses started to become too much, wish I still had it.

You cant chip an ST205 ECU.... It requires a full replacement ECU such as a Power FC/Motec/Link etc....
I also had a '94 WRC, but to be honest, there isnt a difference from the 'normal' model so DONT pay a premium if they are advertising it as a Limited/Lightweight/Rally Spec Model.
Here is a GREAT site about them, from a true enthusiast. As someone has already pointed out, the www.gt4oc.net owners club is a great place to ask about them.
Do a search on here, I have done a comparison on my 400bhp ST205 Celica GT4 and my old MY99 Impreza Turbo...
Cheers,
Grant

Apologies for forcing you to type that then Craig!!
I didnt want the guy to think that there was a quick-fix 'Superchip' or FCD type way to modify the Celica.. because IMO it would go bang, quickly.
Fuel Maps run out around 1.25bar on the ST205... so its possible to raise it, safely, to around 1.15-1.2bar. Yours possibly had a relief valve/bleed valve/dawes device type manual boost controller fitted which raised the boost.
They are quick cars, but as someone said, they are also heavy.. On the plus side, they 'seem' easier to get power from than equivalent aged Imprezas are, and the Chargecooler system has been proven reliable on applications running c400bhp.

Grant

I've been looking into modifying my MR2 which has a similar engine bar the chargecooler. You can throw on loads of mods with the standard ecu or just a piggyback.
Unlike the 'fragile' Subaru engine.
You also get a Blitz Access ECU for the MR2 so assume this would be available for the GT4 too ?

I.e. 2.0 Turbo is ST205
2.0 NA is ST202
2.0 NA with 4WS is ST203
Just the model code nothing to do with bhp.
L reg WRX with have either 220 bhp or 240 bhp (Hatch/Saloon)

I know a lot of people that have had problems with a Dastek Unichip on their 205's... One person actually gained more power from removing the Unichip from her car?!
What I meant was that you couldnt just buy a chip and plug it in, the car will run like crap and there is no way to re-map it.. EcuTek etc.
Cheers,
Grant

The ST205 is a heavy car, they also feel heavy and cumbersome to drive. It felt boring too, i had one for a few months.
But the fuel:fun ratio wasn't good enough so got rid. I wish i had gotten a Rev 3 MR2 but you live and learn.
