What car after a R33 GTR?
At the moment i own a skyline, looking to get rid and get a sensible car...maybe.
Im thinking a focus, getting sick of the running costs of the skyline as ive had it about 4 yrs ish now.
I know going to a focus will be a real shock, what other cars would you recommend rather than just going down to a focus? i was thinking about a civic type r? but will it be much cheaper to run than the skyline?
Cheers

TBH, nothing comes close to a skyline. Have you thought about a lotus Elise or Vauxhall VX220 ? At least if you get a sports car it will be interesting in a different way to the skyline. You will slit your wrists in a Focus or similar.

Shaolin,
A Civic Type R will be much cheaper to run. I went from my R33 GTR to an E39 M5. If you're really looking to save money though, try an Octavia vRS or maybe even one of the new generation VAG diesels.
To be honest, most things are cheaper to run than a Skyline. Even my M5 was!
Cheers

To be honest im probably just going to be after something cheaper than the skyline, i know speed wise etc not alot will compare.
So really something in between the skyline and focus, thats not too bad on petrol but still nice to drive ?
I had a e30 m3 before and i can honestly say its the best car ive ever had, not as fast as the skyline but just felt "right".

Not too sure on the budget yet, really the best mpg but still a good car to drive/have fun with and not stupid to insure or service if such a car exists !

I even thought about keeping the skyline and getting an old banger for work etc but then there is still the hassle of another car.

The E30 M3 is a good car, maybe you could consider another M car. I have been informed that the E36 M powered cars can easily average 30mpg and achieve up to 40 mpg on a gentle run. These cars are <£8000 now, as are decent E34 M powered cars. Both will be cheaper than the skyline to run.

Yes i was looking at e36 m3's, probably the best car you can buy by a long way for that sort of money,......but big money if things go wrong.

I went from my MY03 STi to a £350 Rover 420 SLi and do you know what, I wish I did it ages ago. The Rover cost me less to buy (with 12 months MOT) than the scoob did to run for 1 month only.....
Its also great fun driving round in a banger you can park anywhere, does at least the speed limit if required and can be thrown away and replaced if it has issues.....
I have set a £100 repairs limit. First bill of over that and it goes.
So far in a months use I have bought the car, 1 ltr of oil, and a can of WD40 ........ it runs like a dream, starts first time and even has an electric sunroof
bangers all the way ........

I also sold my CRX, semi-track ready and bought a Fiat Brava from a friend. One year later and still up on money. I park it where ever suits, I could not care who or what hits it. When its time to bin it I will- Bangers all the way!

Bought a banger Xantia Diesel 12 months ago as I was travelling 60 miles/day on motorway and couldn't justify doing it in the scoob.
Eventually I couldn't justify leaving the Scoob in the garage all week only to use it sometimes during weekends.
So bye bye Scoob, hello lots more money!
I'll definatley have another performance vechicle at some point, but for the time being I'm investing money into the house.

As well as the banger we still have the missis Audi A3 and my 205 track car though........
I wouldnt want a £300 car as the only family car, but as my run around its 100% ideal.
Why spend £3 or £4K on an old car which will go wrong and cost a fortune when you can spend £300 on a throw away car. Plus they are great to drive
