Default There I was...

Sat at the lights in my STi PPP on my way to work, pull away, then look in my rear view mirror. A bad *** Audi RS6. I think to myself, this could be fun, enjoy driving to work for a change. He desides he wants to sit 6" from my back bumper, so I'm convinced he's up for it. Then we get to bit of open, fast road, and he backs off!!! Boring... I was gutted. Was wanting to see what it had. Anyone had any experiences with an RS6? Driving one, racing one etc?

Plenty of discussions on here conclude one thing - unless you know the road well and it's incredibly narrow and winding, you will be spat out for breakfast. He had as much interest in racing you as you have in racing a rusting 1.6 sierra.

Had a brief run in with one before I realised what it was, the term " humped " springs to mind

My modded STi was pushed over by one in Germany. At 120mph I though my car had stopped because he shot past me like I wasn't accelerating!

I've test drove one for 15 minutes or so, and it lacked the feeling and exhiliration of my modded STi. It develops it's power prety lazily but then when you stamp the loud pedal it takes off and its over . Although it was a short experience at the helm, i found the scoob was a more exciting drive where as in the RS you feel like your piloting the starship enterprise . I'd like to drive the new RS4 though for a comparison

Got passed by one in my last car. OK last car was remapped diesel A4 with 220bhp but it was still pretty swift at motorway speeds but an RS6 waited for me to pull back in after an overtake then passed me as if i was stationary. Comedy acceleration.

I do know the road very well. I'm not trying to start a "My cars faster than yours thread", Theres not many of them around, and I thought he mightve been up for a bit of banter, judging by the way he was driving.

I had a play with one in my standard 03 WRX. I do mean play because he would shoot off and then wait for me to catch up and then shoot off again. Fantastic motor. He was even pulling away round the sweeping corners we were racing round! I really thought I would have some semblance of a chance in the 'twisties'! Hts off the RS6. I was actually laughing out loud whilst driving because he would pull away so quickly it was comical.

Was in a mates 280bhp WRX following an RS6, but as my mate pulled out to go by the RS6 took off like a rooket. Seemed like the WRX was going backwards! It was completely in another league.

Huge wieght deficit ova the Scoobs. RS6's need more respect round twisties but get them on the open road and the flux capacitor goes crazy.

New RS6 rumoured to feature either 550hp NA V10 or a turboed V10 with 600hp.

I'll let you know next week. My old man's picking his up Monday

Once it's run in, then were taking them both out on a road we know over the Pennines (Hardly any other traffic), and having a bit fun. So I'll be able to let you all know what's faster over open country pennine roads. Audi RS4 V's MY05 STI PPP.

I'm putting a Fiver on the Audi.

i love thse threads......

yes he was at an advantage with the RS6 being on paper the faster car, alot of people forget its as much to do with the driver of the car as it is the car.

i used to push along, and leave on occasions a local guy to me in his bugeye JDM STI. That was in my little 306 RALLYE. its all very well having 400bhp and 400ft/lb under your foot, but using it and being able to use it is quite another.

just appreciate it

Then we get to bit of open, fast road, and he backs off!!!
Perhaps he didn't want to be responsible for you killing yourself trying to keep up . I ended up doing that when a saxo boy (not our saxo boy) was trying to be a hero... I didn't want a death on my conscience

I was able to keep my mate's RS6 behind my STI up to around 70/80mph - then he would just blow me away and wouldn't be seen again.... but down a bendy, not so smooth back road the Audi would never even get close

I have an RS6. Yes they are incredibly fast - in all honesty probably too fast to really utilise in this country. They have a huge amount of torque and a very wide torque curve (they're developing 400lb/ft at under 2000rpm). Couple that with the tiptronic gearbox and 4wd and they'll outdrag almost anything with little in the way of driver effort or skill required. Derestricted, even a standard car is good for almost 190mph.

Along a bumpy B road it would be a different matter. They're big heavy cars and very stiffly sprung. Out of their element I imagine they'd be humbled by far less expensive machinery.

IMO they're the ultimate performance car for someone with kids and luggage to cart around. But if you don't need such a big car, then other vehicles provide a better solution for the driving enthusiast.

Gary.
